It's May already! The days are starting to get longer and warmer and we have a month of bank holidays ahead of us. This month we have a general update on all things adoption support. Happy reading!
Introducing the new helpdesk
The way you can access adoption support is changing. In April we launched our new helpdesk, staffed by a team of skilled, trauma-informed social workers, providing immediate support with minimum delay.
The helpdesk team is available Monday-Friday to offer a safe, non-judgemental therapeutic space to families, to explore their child and family’s current circumstances, while identifying possible support needs along the way.

Would your family benefit from a CAMHS workshop?
Adoption East Midlands (AEM) has joined up with Nottinghamshire CAMHS to offer workshops aimed at supporting adoptive parents to revisit the impact of developmental trauma on their child and their emotional well-being.
These workshops aim to support parents with thinking about their concerns in relation to their child’s current situation, using a trauma-informed approach and are available to all AEM adopters.

Voices of adoption is looking for more young people
Voices of Adoption is a forum for adopted young people aged 11-18 who meet six times a year on a Saturday, from 10am – 2pm. The sessions give us an opportunity to discuss themes and topics we are working on, plan and test out activities for our young people’s events, socialise and have lunch together provided by AEM.
They give adopted young people a chance to build self-esteem and confidence and have a say in how adoption support services can best meet their needs. If you know someone who may be interested in the sessions, please follow the link below for more information.

Taking climate action to our homes and beyond
Adoption East Midlands supports our host Nottinghamshire County Council's efforts to reduce our collective carbon footprint.
We are committed to reducing our environmental impact, whilst maintaining quality services. This includes opportunities to attend carbon literacy training, rethinking how and when we travel, and our use of paper. If your family is interested in learning more about our efforts, you can find out more at the link below.

National Children's Day 2023 is coming up!
National Children's Day UK (NCDUK2023),will take place on Sunday 14 May, 2023, and celebrates the rights and well-being of children across the UK. It aims to raise awareness of children’s needs and to promote their welfare and development with a variety of activities and events for children and families to enjoy.
This is also a great opportunity to promote the work that organisations and individuals do nationwide to help children grow up happy and healthy and to champion children’s participation.
AEM offers training and support to families, hosts lots of fun events and provides a platform for young people to shape our service.
