Hello and welcome to the April edition of fostering news for 2023. This edition will be short but sweet, like a chocolate mini egg, because everyone is off making the most of the short bursts of sunny weather and the school holiday, like we hope you are!
Talking of Easter, what is your favourite thing to do at this time of year? Easter egg hunts in the garden, family get togethers, walks in the countryside, or something else?
Whatever it is, why not let us know and send us some pictures that can be shared on our @FosterNotts Facebook page or get the arts and crafts stuff out and send us some pics of your cutting and sticking efforts celebrating the season.
Before you get on with your day, take a quick coffee break and check out this month’s newsletter where you will find some fun Easter facts, details of this year’s Fostering’s Got Talent, the Annual Achievement Event and the April FLAG meeting, alongside the usual training updates. Thanks for reading 😊
Fostering’s Got Talent
It is that time of year again when we are excited to announce that we are holding our annual Fostering’s Got Talent show.
The show will take place on Wednesday 24 May at 6pm in the Create Theatre, West Notts College, Mansfield.
First prize is two tickets to the Britain’s Got Talent semi final, with Love2Shop vouchers for other winners and a prize for all the children who take part.
We are looking forward to seeing the many talents and are encouraging staff to enter too, so anyone out there who is hiding their light under a bushel needs to come forward and let it shine!

Annual Achievement Event
The Virtual School Annual Achievement Event for Nottinghamshire children and young people who are looked after will take place at University of Nottingham, Jubilee Campus, on Saturday 10 June 2022.
The event will start at 11am, but a slightly earlier arrival would allow for a prompt start. This year’s inspirational guest speaker will be Ashley John-Baptiste.
Please nominate your children and young people for their successes. This can include achievements, things they have done well at, or made progress in.
Please click the link to nominate your child/young person. Please submit all nominations by 21 April 2023 at the latest.
If you have any questions or queries, please contact Claire and Ruth at virtual.school@nottscc.gov.uk

Foster Care Fortnight
This May, we will be taking part in the Fostering Network’s annual campaign to raise awareness of fostering. We will join in celebrating existing foster carers and their fostering families, and encouraging people to consider becoming foster carers.
The theme is once again communities. A few weeks ago, we sent out an email asking if anyone wanted to join in our communities video with a football theme and we are a bit sad because so far we haven’t had any contributions.
Obviously we know that some of you are shy or cannot appear on video for other reasons but there are other ways to join in and support the promotion of fostering such as taking part in case studies and speaking on the radio so please get in touch to find out more or if you are willing to spend five minutes this weekend doing a video for us (our example can be re-sent if you need it). Help us keep the amazing job you do in the public eye!

FLAG
The next Fostering Liaison Advisory Group meeting takes place on Monday 24 April 2023, at 7pm, online.
As always this is your opportunity to find out what is going on in the service and have your say, so please do come along. Click the link below to enter the meeting when the time comes

Training updates
The latest training update is available on the foster carer’s website, and to download via the button below.
Thanks to our Fostering Support Officer colleague Judy who takes the time to do this for us.

Fun Easter Facts
Here are some fun Easter facts we thought you might enjoy while you're finishing off your chocolate treats (thanks to the Beano website)
- Have you ever wondered why an Easter Egg has got the cracked pattern on it?
This comes from an early way of making them to cover any imperfections in the process (Top Tip – this means you can also sneak a bit without anyone noticing! Ssshhh!)
- 75% of people surveyed said they eat their Easter Bunny chocolate by biting it’s ears off first!!!!!!!! How do you eat your Easter chocs?
- Cadbury’s (other chocolate makers are available) make 1.5 million crème eggs a day. If you piled a year’s worth up the pile would be higher than Mount Everest!
- In Switzerland Easter Eggs are delivered to children by a Cuckoo. We would have thought the Cuckoo was busy announcing what time it was in the clock so we’re wondering if it’s a bit Cuckoo that he’s got a second job!
- According to the Guinness World Records, the largest ever decorated Easter Egg was made in Brazil, measured 15.02 metres high and took 48 days to make! If you found an Easter Egg like that on your hunt we want to know!
