The Reduce, Reuse, Recycling Fund – apply today!
If you’re part of a group that is passionate about saving the planet then The Reduce, Reuse, Recycling Fund could be for you!
We've teamed up with our waste partner Veolia to offer grants of up to £1,000 to not-for-profit community groups, schools and charities in Nottinghamshire (excluding the city of Nottingham) to support local projects that inspire people to think differently about waste and resources.
Whether you’re planting a community vegetable garden, starting school composting systems, or planning repair workshops, £1,000 could be just what you need to get your project off the ground.
Lots of exciting entries for recycled sensory gardens, upcycled furniture and waste reduction projects are already in - so make sure your entry gets to us by 16 June 2023.

Be a good egg and share some Easter joy
Did you know 80 million boxed chocolate Easter eggs are sold each year in the UK – resulting in more than 8,000 tonnes of waste?
That’s an average of 8.8 eggs per child. That’s a lot of chocolate – and a lot of potential waste. So why not encourage your children to be eggstra kind and donate some of their Easter eggs to a local foodbank?
To find your nearest foodbank search 'foodbank' on the NottsHelpYourself website.

Do your bit - put the right bits in the right bin
Once you’ve enjoyed your chocolate eggs and Easter treats follow these four tips to dispose of the packaging:
- Flatten all your empty cardboard chocolate boxes before placing them in your recycling bin
- Place any foil or plastic packaging in your general waste bin
- If a cardboard box has plastic attached, please remove the plastic and put it in your general waste bin.

Waste not, want not this Easter
Did you know UK households throw away 4.5 million tonnes of food that could have been eaten?
The average household throws away £2 worth of food every day – mainly because it wasn’t eaten in time. That’s literally £728 a year thrown in the bin.
There are many simple, small steps you can take to waste less food – and save money. For example, read about these 7 everyday foods that you can freeze that you’ve probably been throwing away for years.
Easter is a great excuse to get together with friends and family for a traditional Sunday roast, but did you know that potatoes and chicken are in the top ten most wasted foods in the UK? If you’re too full of Easter eggs to clean your plate or get seconds, don’t throw away the leftovers, make some amazing Sunday roast pasties instead. Simple and delicious!

Don’t bin your batteries!
Each year we throw away over 600 million batteries and shockingly, 98% of them are not recycled.
Do you know about the fire risk if you don’t dispose of batteries safely?
Lithium-ion batteries which are found in many electronic devices, toys, laptops and power tools can cause fires if put in household waste bins. Once crushed in the back of bin lorries they can ignite other flammable waste such as paper or plastic causing damage and disruption to collection services in your area. Over 700 fires were caused last year by batteries that weren’t removed from electricals in waste trucks and recycling centres.
Small electronic devices are accepted at all our recycling centres and special containers are also available at the sites for removed batteries. Large retailers like supermarkets who sell batteries will also have containers for the recycling of used batteries.
