Ready for a fang-tastic half term?

We’ve got plenty of spook-tacular activities happening across Nottinghamshire to keep everyone entertained.

From free cinema at Inspire Libraries, holiday clubs at Notts Outdoors, spooky woodland actvities at Sherwood Forest, and an amazing light show at Rufford Abbey, there is lots going on for a range of family fun. 

And if you want outdoor activities just for the little ones:

Holiday activites and food programme

The holiday activities and food (HAF) programme is open to children and young people aged between 5 – 16 years who receive benefits-related free school meals. Eligible children and young people will be able to access activities with food over October half term.

National adoption week

Next week is National Adoption Week (17 – 23 October); an annual campaign organised by You Can Adopt to raise awareness of adoption across the UK.  Our Adoption East Midlands team is proud to support this campaign and is urging people to get in touch to find out more about adopting with us. Virtual Information events and Q&A sessions are a great opportunity to have an informal chat with the team and hear from experienced adopters.  Join us on Teams - upcoming dates: Information event - Monday 17 October, 6pm-8pm Q&A sessions - Wednesday 26 October & Friday 4 November, 12.30pm-1.30pm. Apply for secondary school places by 31 October!

With less than three weeks before the deadline, it’s time to get your secondary school applications in! All applications must be received by the closing date of Monday 31 October 2022 and we recommend that you list four preferences, as listing only one or two schools on your child’s application could reduce their chances of getting a place at a school you are happy with. Using all four of your preferences gives you the best chance of getting one of your preferred schools. Already submitted your online application? Don’t worry, you can go back and edit it – as long as you edit and resubmit the application before the deadline!

Reycle week 2022

Recycle Week (17 to 23 October), is a great time to spread the word about the importance of recycling. This year’s theme is Let’s Get Real. In the UK alone, recycling saves around 10-15 million tonnes of carbon emissions a year - this is the equivalent of taking 3.5 million cars off the road! We know that people in Nottinghamshire recycle, but despite our best collective efforts we’re still seeing a large proportion of items that can’t be recycled locally ending up in the recycling stream. When this happens it can spoil a whole lorry load of recycling and means that we cannot recycle it. Let’s get real together to make a difference to our planet and recycle right.

Witches and warlocks den buidling

Sherwood Forest

Build a den for a witch or a warlock so they can cast their spells and make potions in Sherwood Forest. 

There will be spine-tingling tales from a storyteller and hot chocolate. You can dress in your favourite scary costume too!

Booking in advance is essential. Tickets cost £7.50 (£6 for RSPB Members). Recommended for ages six plus.

Win spectacle of light tickets

Win a family ticket to see the fantastic Spectacle of light at Rufford Abbey. 

See the amazing new art installations of lighting rods, sparkling chandeliers and the amazing carpet of colour around the abbey! The installations will be there from 3 - 20 November (Thursday-Sunday).
