£1.14 billion devolution deal for the East Midlands
The Government has confirmed that a £1.14 billion devolution deal is on offer for the East Midlands, covering Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Derby, and Nottingham.
The deal will provide the region with a guaranteed income stream of £38 million per year over a 30-year period. Covering an area home to around 2.2 million people, an East Midlands combined authority would be one of the biggest in the country.
All four city and county council leaders in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Derby, and Nottingham have signed up to work on this devolution deal with the government.

It’s time to tear up the timetable because on demand buses have arrived in Nottinghamshire!
On Tuesday 30 August, Nottinghamshire County Council began trials of its new on demand bus service, giving residents a more flexible way of travelling by bus.
Nottsbus On Demand is a new bus service being trialled in the villages around Retford, Olllerton and Newark. An evening service is also being launched in Mansfield.
The new service will replace the current 136, 190, 195, 200, 330, 332, 333, 334, and 335 bus routes. However, unlike these traditional services, Nottsbus On Demand doesn’t have a fixed route or follow a timetable. Instead, the buses can travel anywhere between bus stops and designated points within the operating zones, where there is not already a scheduled bus service running. Passengers will be able to choose when they would like to travel by booking their journey through an easy-to-use app or on the telephone.

Flying the flag for Nottinghamshire Day
One of the county’s much-loved landmarks provided the backdrop for Nottinghamshire Day celebrations last week.
A flag-raising ceremony took place at Newark Castle with world-famous legends Robin Hood, Maid Marian, and Little John at the helm, courtesy of Notts Outdoors, the county council's outdoor education service.
After #NottsDay trended on social media last year, today’s second-ever Nottinghamshire Day is again celebrating everything that is great and good about our county and its people, whether it’s our fascinating heritage and world-famous legends, well-loved tourism sites, market towns and nightlife or the top-class sports grounds and teams.
Nottinghamshire County Council Chairman, Councillor Roger Jackson, led the commemorations by raising the county’s distinctive green, red, and white Robin Hood flag.

Successful bid will power up electric vehicle charging at homes across Nottinghamshire
Charging electric vehicles on-street for households in Nottinghamshire without off-street parking will be easier thanks to a successful bid for Government funding.
Nottinghamshire County Council has been awarded £774,000 from the Government’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) pilot scheme, which will enable the proposed Electric Vehicle (EV) cable channel pilot programme to be rolled out on a wider scale than previously planned. The Council will now work with Government to finalise the funding and programme arrangements, with the aim of launching the pilot programme in the coming months.

‘Levelling Up’ bid for job-creating £40m Link Road submitted
Nottinghamshire County Council has formally submitted a £40m bid to Government for the financing of the planned Toton Link Road.
The council wants the multi-million-pound sum needed to build the road from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund, following councillors approving plans for its construction last year.
The new link road would consist of a new one-mile single-carriageway track between the A52 east of Bardills Island and Stapleford Lane, taking the form of a high-quality landscaped boulevard with significant tree planting and walking and cycling routes.

Targeted support for pensioners most in need to help with the cost of living
Extra support to help with rising bills will be offered to more than 14,000 Notts pensioners who currently receive Pension Credit.
Thanks to the Government’s Household Support Fund (HSF) Nottinghamshire County Council and partners will continue to share vital money worth £5.6 million to those in immediate need of help, because of the rising costs of food and energy.
Around one-third of this money has been set aside for pensioners, which is why the county council is now writing to all those who claim Pension Credit, whether guaranteed credit or savings credit, to invite them to apply for this extra support by Tuesday 6 September (unless a later date is specified in the letter.) |
