Plan to plant thousands of trees given £1.7m boost
Ambitious plans by Nottinghamshire County Council to plant 250,000 trees across the county by 2027 have been strengthened after securing £1.7m from the government for the scheme.
Greenwood Community Forest will manage the £1.7m grant through the national Trees for Climate programme, which the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) is funding.

Line up revealed for first-ever Notts Day Festival
Some of the county’s most talented and exciting young artists are set to take to the stage for the first-ever Nottinghamshire Day festival on Saturday 27 August between 11am-8pm.
Continuing the celebrations for the second-ever Nottinghamshire Day on Thursday 25 August , the festival, led by Nottinghamshire County Council working with partners, will revel in all things Notts and take places near the Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre in the heart of Robin Hood Country.

Less than one month to go until Tour of Britain returns to Nottinghamshire
The countdown to the Tour of Britain’s return to Nottinghamshire for what promises to be an unforgettable day of cycle racing has officially begun.
Over 100 of the world’s best riders will tackle a 186.8km (116.2m) stage that begins in the heart of West Bridgford (10:45am) and culminates in Mansfield (approximately 3pm) on Thursday 8 September.

Parents of children who are starting year 6 this September are strongly advised to list four preferences when applying for their child’s secondary school place for next year - to avoid losing out on their preferred school for September 2023.
While next September may feel a long way off, parents of children who are about to start in year 6 and living in Nottinghamshire should start thinking about their application for secondary school and apply before the application deadline on Monday 31 October 2022.

Nurseries celebrated at Food For Life event
Seven nurseries across Nottinghamshire have been recognised for their participation in the Food for Life award and the positive changes they have made to their food provision for children attending their nurseries.
The Food for Life award was initiated across Nottinghamshire as part of the wider national Childhood Obesity Trailblazer Programme, with Nottinghamshire County Council being one of only five Local authorities selected to take part. This programme has been funded by the Department of Health and Social Care and managed by the Local Government Association.

Planning green light given to ‘money-saving’ council office at Top Wighay
A new, low-carbon money-saving council office has been given the green light to be built at the site of Top Wighay Farm near Hucknall.
The new building is a key component of the council’s ‘Investing in Nottinghamshire’ programme to reduce the number of council buildings from over 17 to 10, resulting in an annual saving of £1.35m for taxpayers and more resources for vital public services.
