Take care as infections start to rise

The UK Health Security Agency is reminding people that Covid-19 has not gone away and that everyone should remember to practise good hand hygiene, frequently washing our hands for 20 seconds with hot water and soap. It might also be a good idea to wear a face covering in a crowded, enclosed space such as public transport.

If you are meeting others indoors open some windows to help with ventilation and in the sunny weather you could also plan to meet outside. If you have any symptoms of a respiratory infection, and a high temperature or feel unwell, you should try to stay at home or away from others – especially elderly or vulnerable people.

It’s not too late to get vaccinated

The best thing everyone can do to keep ourselves and others safe is make sure our vaccination are up to date. These remain our best form of defence against the virus. It’s not too late to catch up if you’ve missed boosters or even first doses.

While Covid-19 is still circulating, the government is ensuring that everybody has access to the latest guidance around staying safe. An updated, easy read version of the guidance has been made available on the Living safely with respiratory infections page.

Get set for your summer getaway

As the summer holiday season approaches, remember to check what Covid-19 restrictions may still be in place if you’re travelling abroad. Most countries in the EU have reduced or removed their restrictions, while some still have measures in place depending on your vaccination status or negative test results. There may be different rules further afield.

If you and your family are considering travelling abroad this summer remember that restrictions can change at short notice, and additional restrictions could be imposed by the country of your destination, including during your visit. Keep an eye on the government’s travel guidance.

As you get ready for summer, it’s important to protect yourself from HIV and STIs. Testing is free, quick and easy.

It’s recommended you test more regularly if you’ve had unprotected sex or multiple partners.

NHS alert about Covid test scams

The NHS is warning people that there are some fake NHS text messages circulating, advising people to order Omicron Covid-19 test kits. The fake message reads along these lines: ‘You’ve been in close contact with someone who has contracted the Omicron variant. Please order a test kit…’ Note that Close contacts of people who have tested positive are no longer advised to test.

Remember that the NHS will never ask for bank details, so please be aware of these suspicious messages. Find out how you can protect yourself against scam emails, texts and phone calls.
