Welcome to our June edition of Fostering News. We are pleased to share with you dates for our upcoming Sons and Daughters Appreciation Day, as well as the annual Foster Carer and Staff Conference. We also have some brilliant opportunities for your young people to get involved with and information about the Children in Care Council. Happy reading!
Dates for your diary
After two years of Covid restrictions and limited face to face contact, we are very pleased to offer you two save the dates for upcoming events in the NCC foster carer calendar.
Firstly, if you have birth children aged 8 – 18, we will be having our annual Sons and Daughters appreciation day on Wednesday 24 August 2022. We’ll be heading back to Holme Pierrepont Country Park for more fun on the water and to try out some of the other brilliant activities they have on offer. We have sent out invitations for our carers with birth children in this age range, if you do not think you’ve received yours then please email us at fostering@nottscc.gov.uk.
Secondly, planning is well under way for our annual staff and foster carer conference. This will be held at the Civic Centre in Mansfield on Wednesday 5 October 2022. As well as having some great workshops and guest speakers, it will be a fantastic opportunity for everyone to socialise and catch-up after being apart for so long! We hope to see as many of you there as possible so please put the date in your diaries now!

Children in Care Council
The Children in Care Council is a safe and fun space for looked after children to come together, share their experiences and make a difference to the lives of looked after children by giving feedback to the adults in charge! It gives them a voice and an opportunity to build friendships with other children in care. If you have a looked after young person who might be interested in joining then please email Emma Betteridge at emma.betteridge@nottscc.gov.uk for dates and venues of the next CiCC meetings.

Positive News Stories
Here at Fostering HQ, we love a good news story. Whether it’s a great outcome for a looked after child or a small win for one of our amazing carers, please send in your stories so that we can share them with the rest of the service. We’ve recently received this wonderful story about a local looked after young person from one of our children’s service mangers:
"A thirteen year old girl who has struggled significantly with building relationships and has low self -esteem moved to a residential home in December. Since living in her new home, she has become very interested in the environment, and decided that she wanted to write to her local MP about her concerns and what the government is doing about making sure the lakes and rivers are kept clean (as sewerage has gone into rivers). She was rightly very proud when she got a reply from the MP Rt Hon Robert Jenrick. This has really boosted her self-esteem, and she now wants to join the Children In Care Council."
Fostering Liaison Advisory Group – FLAG
The next FLAG meeting will be held on Monday 4 July via Microsoft Teams at 7pm. Please find the link to join the meeting below.
FLAG is a great opportunity to hear the latest service updates from our group and service managers as well as hearing guest speakers and sharing positive news stories with your fellow NCC foster carers. All carers are welcome. We hope to see you there!

Fostering’s Got Talent Success!
We had a fabulous evening on 20 May where nine brilliant acts took to the stage to demonstrate their passions for this years’ Fostering’s Got Talent competition. The audience were thoroughly entertained and delighted by the courageous children who got up and gave it everything they have. Thank you so much to all the carers who supported their young people to join us and to the fantastic audience who made it a brilliant atmosphere.
The winner was nine year old Summer whose prize was two tickets to see the live filming of the Semi-Final’s of Britain's Got Talent. She attended the live filming on 30 May with a member of her foster family and had a fantastic evening!
Fostering’s Got Talent was the finale to our Foster Care Fortnight campaign. We’d like to thank all the carers and staff who got involved with various videos, interviews and social media posts and made it such a success. We couldn’t have done it without you!
