National Volunteers' Week 1 - 7 June
Our outstanding volunteers - 95 so far..!
We really value our children's centre volunteers, they are an integral part of the service we offer. It’s a great way to dip your toe into the world of work and we have lots of exciting opportunities available, including:
- Early years
- Admin
- Breastfeeding peer supporter
- EPEC – Empowering Parents Empowering Communities – parent group leaders
- FOOD Club - in partnership with Family Action and Fare Share
- PHEW - Parents Health and Emotional Wellbeing

Antenatal BABES, a new service available
Antenatal BABES is a 4-week course, suitable for parents-to-be from 28 weeks of pregnancy.
Expectant parents receive information on a range of topics, giving them the knowledge to make an informed choice on how to care for their baby, including:
- 'normal' new-born behaviour
- the benefits of skin-to-skin
- caring for baby at night and safe sleeping
- useful information on feeding baby such as feeding cues, breastfeeding and responsive bottle feeding.
Ask for more information at your local children's centre.

Another FOOD Club in Gedling!
Earlier this year Gedling successfully launched its second FOOD Club at Killisick Children’s Centre with 26 new members.
Membership of the Food on Our Doorstep Clubs, which are run in partnership with Family Action, continues to grow, with 35 regular members buying a box of tasty food items weekly, fortnightly, or monthly.
In the past 12 weeks, 315 boxes have been sold, making a total of nearly 1500 boxes sold since the FOOD Clubs were launched in July last year!
Each box contains £10-£15 worth of food for just £3.50.

Toilet training workshop
Toileting workshops are now on offer for parents who are preparing to toilet train their children.
The workshop is being delivered in our children’s centres as well as in some early years settings.
We use guidance from ERIC, the Children’s Bowel and Bladder Charity.

Top 10 tips for a stress-free school holiday
- Get outside – have a picnic or a scavenger hunt
- Get crafty – junk model a monster!
- Get involved – play with your child/children
- Get imaginative – build a den – have an adventure
- Check out local FREE activities at your library or park
- Cook together – prepare food – bake – mudpie!
- Plan – for rainy days as well as sunny!
- Buddy up – meet up with family and friends
- Quality time – do the gardening, cleaning together
- Time away from the SCREENS – parents too!

Free play sessions for under 5s
Our Under Ones and Stay and Play are both fun-filled sessions which are open to all families with children under five in Nottinghamshire.
They are free and places are on a first come, first served basis.
Contact your local centre to see when and where your nearest sessions are.

Forest School - a fun way to learn
Forest School is a programme that develops confidence and self-esteem through experiences in a natural setting.
Comments from two parents:
