May half term - school holiday fun!

Do you have an a-May-zing school holiday planned for May half term? Fear not! There are so many fun activities happening across the county including brilliant Platinum Jubilee celebrations!

Did you know that street parties are a long held tradition in the UK for significant national events? More than 350 streets across the county are set to be closed to allow communities to celebrate safety, plus we’ve waived the normal road closure fees for the occasion - is your street hosting a street party? If not there's still time to kickstart some planning for neighbourly celebrations!

Could you join our amazing foster care community?

A caring mum and dad have been shining a light on life as foster carers for Nottinghamshire County Council and the importance of the fostering community, as part of Foster Care Fortnight which ran 9-22 May. Hundreds of children in Nottinghamshire are waiting for a local, safe and supportive foster home. Amy and Mark are part of our amazing foster care community -  could you be too? Our foster carers receive excellent local support, allowances and ongoing training and development. Most people can foster. Coming soon - dates for your diary!

This summer there is lots to get excited about in Notts, including festivals celebrating our amazing county and international sporting events giving Nottinghamshire the spotlight it deserves! Here are just a few dates for your diary: Tour of Britain - children's competitions coming in June! Tell your kids to keep an eye out at school for exciting competitions aimed at primary and secondary aged children - competitions to design the flag and trophy (for primary school aged children) and a racing helmet (for secondary school aged children) will be launching in June! Notts Day - Thursday 25 August Nottinghamshire Day is an opportunity to celebrate the identity, heritage, culture, and local traditions of our county. It is a way to champion our local communities, to better understand and celebrate the histories and traditions of the places we live, work and enjoy in our leisure time. Notts Day Festival at Sherwood Forest - Saturday 27 August, 11am - 8pm This brilliant free-to-attend festival will be fun for all the family, with live music, entertainment, food and local stalls, it is the perfect event to enjoy together on a (hopefully) sunny August Saturday! Tour of Britain comes to Nottinghamshire - Thursday 8 September Stage 5 of the Tour Of Britain will be taking place in Nottinghamshire, starting in West Bridgford and finishing in Mansfield - will it pass by your house, school or business? School Holiday Clubs

Notts Outdoors - Mill Adventure Base

30 May - 1 June

Price: £26 per day

Suitable for school years 3 to 8.

Children must bring a packed lunch.

Your adventurer will get to enjoy at least three fun activities each day, ranging from climbing, canoeing, zip wire and many more.

Build confidence, make friends and enjoy the outdoors this half term!

National Water Sports Centre at Holme Pierrepont Country Park

30 May - 3 June

Price: £48 per day

Suitable for 8 - 14 year olds.

Lunch is provided.

Kids can enjoy whizzing around the sky trail and the adventurous climbing wall, enjoy some water based fun with the brand new lagoon wipeout and of course kayaking, canoeing, raft building and more!

Jubilee celebrations

Where is Mrs Queen? Platinum Jubilee kids trail from 28 May. £2.50 per trail sheet.

Sherwood Forest

The Big Picnic at Sherwood Forest. Expect lots of games, activities, and a fun family trail over Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 June.

Gedling Country Park

Queen's Jubilee Beacon Lighting on Thursday 2 June from 8pm to 10.30pm, with entertainment from the Carlton Brass Band from 8pm followed by the lighting of the beacon at 9.45pm.

Competition

National Children’s Gardening Week 28 May - 5 June

We have five family gardening bundles up for grabs, each one containing an eco-friendly gardening set for the kids and a 330 litre compost bin for the adults!

Join in and teach your young ones about growing fruit and vegetables, planting flowers for the bees or even making an insect hotel. Send us a photo of your kid's garden creations for be in with a chance of winning!

To enter:

• Email competitions@nottscc.gov.uk with the subject header: Family Life competition
• Attach a photo of your child's gardening skills or garden creation
• Include your child's first name, age and which part of Notts you live in
• Enter by 5pm on Monday 6 June 2022
