 Living with Covid
This week the Prime Minister confirmed the Government’s plan for Living with Covid, which means the domestic legal restrictions ended on 24 February, as we begin to treat Covid-19 as other infectious diseases such as flu.
The remaining domestic restrictions in England will be removed:
- The legal requirement to self-isolate ends 24 February
- Until 1 April, the advice is to stay at home if you test positive
- Test and Trace Support Payment scheme ends 24 February
- Routine contact tracing ends, including venue check-ins on the NHS COVID-19 app.
From today (24 February) in England, if you test positive for Covid-19 you are no longer legally required to self-isolate.
You will still be advised to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for at least five full days and continue to follow the guidance until receiving two negative test results on consecutive days.
You will no longer be legally required to self-isolate if you are an unvaccinated close contact, and will no longer be advised to test for seven days if you are a fully vaccinated close contact.

The Test and Trace Support Payment scheme in England has now closed. If you were told to self-isolate before 24 February you can still make a claim within 42 days of the first day of self-isolation and no later than 6 April.

From 1 April free symptomatic and asymptomatic testing for the general public will end.
Limited symptomatic testing will be available for a small number of at-risk groups. Free symptomatic testing will also remain available to social care staff.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has advised an additional spring booster dose for the most vulnerable individuals in the population.
The extra spring dose is advised around six months after the last vaccine dose for:
• everyone aged 75+
• residents in care homes for older adults
• immunosuppressed people aged 12 and over.
