Proposal for new Council decision-making model.

Nottinghamshire County Council agreed in principle at a Full Council meeting on 23 September 2021 to move to a leader and cabinet model of decision making.

The council has operated a committee system since 2012 but is now proposing to work towards a model of decision making whereby decisions are driven by a Leader and cabinet members (also called an executive system) rather than by multiple committees made up of councillors from different political groups. The Council previously operated a Leader and cabinet system following their introduction in 2000 until 2012.

Further work on the proposals is underway before a final decision is taken in the Spring. If approved at a future council meeting, the changes are due to be implemented at the annual meeting in May 2022.
