 England will move back to Plan A on Thursday 27 January
The Prime Minister has given a statement to Parliament on the progress against the Omicron variant and the review of the Plan B measures.
As a result of progress made, the Prime Minister announced that England can return to Plan A and allow Plan B regulations to expire. From 27 January, mandatory certification will end, although organisations can still choose to use the NHS Covid Pass voluntarily.
He also confirmed that the government is no longer asking people to work from home and that once regulations lapse on 26 January, wearing face masks will no longer be a legal requirement.
As from today, the government no longer requires face masks in school classrooms. In addition, the Department for Education will shortly remove national guidance on their use in communal areas from 27 January.
The government will also ease further restrictions on visits to care homes and set out plans in the coming days.
He concluded by explaining that the self-isolation regulations will expire on 24 March and that he would not expect to renew them and could even bring that date forwards if the data allowed it. In advance of that, the government will set out their long-term strategy for living with Covid-19.
People are urged to walk in and ‘Grab A Jab’ this week as more of walk-in sites have become available.
Everyone aged 16 and over who had a second dose of the vaccine at least three months ago can get a booster dose. In addition, some children aged 12 to 15 are eligible for a booster.

- Forest Recreation Ground, Nottingham NG7 6HB
- King's Mill Hospital, Sutton-in-Ashfield NG17 4JL
- Mansfield Vaccination Centre, Mansfield NG19 7AP
- Leen View Surgery, Bulwell NG6 8QJ
Please check opening times and dates on the NHS website. Your child can also book a vaccination appointment online. Parents or guardians should attend the vaccination to give their consent.
This age group are also being offered the vaccination in schools. Parents and guardians can fill in a consent form online in advance.

It's just two weeks until the deadline for health and care workers to get their first Covid-19 vaccine dose.
From 1 April 2022, all staff working as regulated care providers are legally required to have both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. This means they must have their first dose by 3 February 2022.

If you are self-isolating with Covid-19 and provide negative lateral flow test results on days five and six and do not have a temperature, you will be able to end self-isolation after five full days.
If either test is positive, wait until the next day before testing again.
