New regulations on mandatory vaccinations for regulated care providers

New regulations for care workers

The Government is working on additional regulations which will require all staff working as regulated care providers to be fully vaccinated by 1 April 2022. The regulations were laid in Parliament on 9 November 2021 and are expected to come into force on the 1 April 2022.

If the regulations are approved, workers in this sector who are not vaccinated will need to have had their first dose of an approved Covid-19 vaccine by 3 February 2022 (this date is subject to change), in order to have received their second dose by the 31 March 2022 deadline.

Timeline (subject to passage through Parliament)

  • 9 November 2021: Regulations were laid before Parliament
  • 17 November 2021: Planning and preparation
  • 6 January 2022: 12-week grace period begins
  • 3 February 2022: Last date for workers to get their first dose, to be fully vaccinated by 1 April 2022
  • 1 April 2022: New regulations come into force.

The timing of the regulations going through Parliament may mean that there could be a change to the dates in the timeline. If you work in the regulated care sector and have any questions, please speak to your employer.
