Santa might not be the only one working this Christmas...
Our winter teams are on standby for all weathers, and that doesn't stop for Christmas. Whether it's our gritting teams on standby for when road temperatures look set to drop to below zero degrees, or our flooding, emergency response or forestry teams who could be called out to deal with incidents across the county, our winter teams will be making sure that Nottinghamshire can keep moving this Christmas.
So, if you happen to see our staff out over the Christmas period, don't forget to give them a wave!
Whether you're dreaming of one or not, did you know that you can sign up to receive Met Office weather alerts and warnings straight to your inbox?

When Chris Rea penned his Christmas classic 'Driving Home for Christmas' he forgot to mention the winter car checks he did before setting off!
Whether it's checking that your tyres have a legal minimum tread depth or checking that you have enough screen wash, it's important to take a few minutes to ensure your vehicle is prepared for winter before making your journey.
But it's not just checking the outside of the car that's important. It might surprise you to know that preparing your car for the colder months is also about what you keep in the car. Some of the most essential items include:
- ice scraper
- de-Icer
- torch and spare batteries
- warm clothes and blanket
- boots or sturdy footwear
- first aid kit
- sunglasses
- road atlas and/or sat nav
- personal medication

Merry Grit-mas!
Every year, we get a lot of comments saying that our gritting teams have missed out particular streets, and so we thought it was time to bust a myth or two!
Our gritting teams work to gritting routes. These are main routes and what we call snow routes. Main routes are A roads, B roads and major bus routes, and snow routes (which are covered less often), include one road to every major settlement, some steep residential roads and access routes to special schools.
When our gritting teams go out, they follow the same roads within whichever route they're covering each time. They don't miss out roads unless exceptional circumstances mean they cannot access them.
The best is, you can check out which routes our gritters cover on our website!
