How do we protect you from flooding?
When you think about how we protect you from flooding, things like closing roads and delivering sandbags might be the first things which come to mind.
Yes we're there for you during a flood, but did you know that much of our work to protect you is done through delivering flood risk management schemes?
It may surprise you to know that there's currently five significant flooding schemes in progress across Nottinghamshire with a further 23 schemes being considered for feasibility and design totalling £8.3million investment!
One of these schemes is at Titchfield Park in Hucknall where works have involved creating a new channel through the park and two attenuation areas to store surface water during heavy rain and storm events.
Did you know that we're set to play a key role in the delivery of a £76million partner scheme in Mansfield?
We're working closely with Severn Trent Water who recently secured funding from the Water Services Regulation Authority (OFWAT) to trial the UK's first collaborative blue-green surface water management scheme in the town.
As the lead local flood authority, we're playing a significant role in the planning, design and delivery of the scheme. Our flood risk management team are currently working closely with Severn Trent Water and other partner organisations on the development of the plans for the scheme.
Initial estimates project that over 58,000 cubic metres of surface water storage will be achieved through natural solutions such as rain gardens, green spaces improving the absorption of pavement materials.

Five properties in Tollerton have recently benefitted from bespoke Property Flood Resilience measures that will reduce the risk and impact of any future flooding events.
These properties suffered devastating internal flooding on two separate occasions just months apart and the measures installed are designed to prevent flood water from entering their properties again.
In Southwell, an innovative Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SuDS) has been completed by Via East Midlands Ltd. on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council at Lowes Wong School.
This project uses natural flood management techniques incorporated into the school grounds and playing field to store storm water and reduce its impact on the downstream catchment during periods of heavy rain.
The design promotes sustainability and has been used to help pupils understand how nature and the environment work as well as reducing flood risk to the wider Southwell catchment.
