Could you be a shared lives carer?
Wojciech and Alicja decided to become Shared Lives carers after seeing a friend support someone to lead a happy and fulfilled life. They saw a trusting bond develop between them and felt that Shared Lives was something they wanted to be a part of.
‘We find it really rewarding watching someone’s life improve – knowing you are making a difference in their lives is a great feeling. The scheme is great and we get lots of support’
Our Shared Lives scheme helps adults who need support to live more independently.
We need carers from all kinds of backgrounds to provide support in their home, from just a few hours a week to long term live-in arrangements, helping some of our most isolated and vulnerable people to be part of a community.

Homecare 'early deterioration' pilot
|
The son of a Newark lady talks about the benefits of a pilot scheme which is helping to spot the early signs of poor health in elderly people.
Home care staff from Fosse Healthcare are recording people’s health via a mobile App and have been trained to spot ‘soft signs of deterioration’, such as a raised temperature or fatigue, which triggers an alert. This ensures they get the help they need at an early stage to avoid a crisis or hospital admission.
“I live 150 miles away and it’s really hard to be here at the drop of a hat, so the thought that somebody’s going to be nearby or monitoring things – like an issue with her blood pressure – that’s definitely reassuring to think that could be picked up early.” Simon Hulbert
