Over 100 million disposable masks are thrown away each week in the UK, with many ending up as litter contaminating our environment and causing a hazard for wildlife.
Disposable face coverings should not be reused so please throw them away in your household general waste bin as they can not be recycled and will end up contaminating other recyclable items.
What's more where possible opt for a reusable face covering that you can wash at home and reuse rather than disposable masks!

Over 95% of general waste collected in Nottinghamshire is sent to energy recovery meaning less that 5%* is sent to landfill!
In our most recent survey** nearly 60% of residents thought their general waste just goes to landfill when this really isn't the case. Now you know help spread the word.
For more recycling insight check out our FAQs
*The 5% still being landfilled is generally waste that can’t be recycled or is not suitable for energy recovery.
**Part of the composting giveaway where over 1100 residents took part in a recycling survey.
