Helmsley Road

Letter of thanks for Helmsley Road

Our team at Helmsley Road Short Breaks service have received an emotional letter of thanks from a local man for the care and support they have provided to his younger brother Michael.

Michael, who has Down’s Syndrome, had been cared for by his older brother Vic and his wife Sonja Knight for 11 and a half years, but following a diagnosis of dementia and progression of the illness, an emergency stay was initially found at Helmsley Road Short Breaks Unit in Rainworth in November 2020.

During the pandemic, the Council adapted the way it provided services and Helmsley Road changed from offering short breaks to also becoming a medium stay unit. Michael remained at Helmsley Road until earlier this month and has now moved into new accommodation more suitable for his needs as his condition progresses.

“Quite simply, Sonja and I have been overwhelmed at the care and consideration Michael has received at Helmsley Road throughout his six months there. We cannot thank everybody enough for this.”

How to take a rapid Covid-19 test at home

Dr Amir Khan

Regular twice-weekly rapid Covid-19 tests can help to identify positive cases and break the chain of transmission. Everyone in Nottinghamshire is encouraged to take these rapid tests twice a week if they don't have any symptoms.

There are many ways to access these tests (also known as lateral flow tests) in Nottinghamshire with options to take the test yourself with a home test kit.

If you need some guidance on how to test yourself at home, watch Dr Amir Khan's video as he goes through the steps for using a self-test and how to read your result and report it to the NHS.

Enjoy the Bank Holiday safely

Bank holiday

If you’re meeting friends and family over the bank holiday weekend remember you can meet a group of up to six people or one other household indoors. Open a window to let plenty of fresh air into the room.

If you plan to meet others outside, this can be with up to thirty people. Social distancing is still in place and you should stay 2 metres apart from anyone who is not in your household or support bubble where possible, or 1 metre with extra precautions in place (such as wearing face coverings) if you cannot stay 2 metres apart.
