Did you know?

Make toast not waste

Did you know 1 million slices of bread are thrown in the bin every hour? That means 24 million slices end up in the bin every day in the UK!

Here's some handy tips to help reduce your food waste:

  • Pop your sliced loaf in the freezer and then you can pick out a slice at a time and toast straight from frozen.
  • Turn crusts and stale slices into bread and butter pudding.
  • Keep your bread fresher for longer by keeping it in the original packaging and storing in a cool, dark and dry place, like a bread bin or cupboard.
  • Keep the end crust in place on top of the loaf slices to keep the next slice fresh.

DON'T bag it up!

plastic bin bag

Reminder - bin liners and carrier bags DO NOT belong in your kerbside recycling bin and WILL NOT be recycled.

When putting your plastic bottles, tins, cans, aerosols, card, paper, yoghurt and margarine tubs in your recycling bin please remember to make sure they are clean, loose and not in any type of plastic bag.

Bin liners or other plastic bags can stop the recyclables inside being ‘seen’ by the sorting machinery at our Materials Recovery Facility as it travels along the conveyor belts. This might sadly mean that your recycling efforts go to waste.

Bin liners can also get wrapped around the sorting machinery making it work less efficiently at sorting the county’s recycling.

Your collection crew may not even pick up your recycling if it’s inside carrier bags or bin liners.

For more information about what you can recycle in your kerbside recycling bin in Notts download our Notts Recycles info sheet, it's available in over 10 languages!
