We’re sorry to sound a little cliché, but we can’t believe it’s November already! The evenings are drawing in and we’re happy to bring you our latest newsletter. Get ready to book your place on the highly anticipated training “promoting resilience and recovery through therapeutic relationships” and submit your nominations for the upcoming 4Uth awards! Happy reading! 😊
Please help us reach potential foster carers far and wide by following and sharing our Facebook page and posts!
Research shows that before someone contacts a business or organisation, they will look on the organisation's website and social media. A social media account with lots of engagement is more appealing to anyone doing their research, especially someone looking into fostering for the first time.
Every like, share and comment really does help boost our social media presence and means we're more likely to be seen by potential foster carers when they're researching fostering!
So please head over to our Facebook page, give us a follow and interact with our posts - thank you!

The 4Uth is a county council initiative to recognise and celebrate the achievements of young people across our county and this year marks the award's tenth anniversary. Due to Covid-19 it will be difficult to hold an event in the same way we have done previously, so this year with the use of video presentations and social media, the 4uth Awards will recognise young people in Nottinghamshire who have responded positively to the impact of Covid-19, and the actions they have taken to support themselves, their friends, family or their community.
Young people should be nominated because they have achieved beyond their own personal boundaries. For example, a young person who has delivered shopping to shielding residents in their community could be considered, or a group of young people who have found a way to continue a hobby safely and supporting each other through lockdown.
In Youth Families and Social Work we know how children and young people have responded to the challenges they have faced during the coronavirus lockdown, we know the kindness that they have shown to others and the steps they have taken to support the most vulnerable in our society. We know that you are proud of the children and young people you work with. Lets formally recognise the achievements and qualities of our children and young people by nominating them for the 4Uth awards!
You can nominate an individual or a group, and nominations are welcome from anyone:
The deadline for nominations is Friday 30 November 2020. If you require any further information or support with your nomination, please do not hesitate to contact Kate Whitby by emailing katie.whitby@nottscc.gov.uk

Our talented colleague Penny has written a short poem about fostering which we shared on our fostering Facebook page last month. It was so lovely we thought we’d share it here so that it reaches far and wide. If you fancy having a go at writing your own then we’d love to see them. Send any contributions to fostering@nottscc.gov.uk
A message from Melissa Blockley, DDP Practitioner and Supervising Social Worker:
“Kim Golding (DDP Practioner, Consultant and Trainer and author of many books including those with Dan Hughes) has been awarded a CBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list. That really puts DDP on the map and underlines the importance of our therapeutic model which we are investing in, in the Nottinghamshire Fostering Service and its fantastic to see that we are working with a model that is being more formally recognised! Many of us (including me) have received training with Kim (I have attended 2 of her conferences) and we use her books to inform our understanding of the mental health needs of our looked after children."

Promoting resilience and recovery through therapeutic relationships
We have recently trained our fostering managers and staff from our looked after and permanency team in therapeutic approaches in developing relationships and parenting.
We are pleased to confirm that dates for foster carers for the 2020/2021 mandatory “promoting resilience and recovery through therapeutic relationships” training have now been confirmed and are live:
Please read the accompanying information which gives further instructions about booking this training which is set out over 4 sessions:
This new short course is an hour and half and is available via Microsoft Teams. It will provide workers and carers with an overview of some of the issues and concerns for children and young people growing up in a digital world and considers the effect that lockdown/Coronvirus restrictions has had on their online behaviour.
The course will be on Wednesday 2 December 2020, 9.30-11.00am.
The Foster Carer's Survey will be back soon, and we'll be sending you an email this month with a link to fill it out. The survey really helps us understand what motivates you, what we do well and where we could improve. This year has been so different to any other year and it's important that we know how you feel so we can continue to improve our service in these unprecedented times.
Thank you!
