Do your bit to keep Covid-19 rates down

With infection rates and cases of Covid-19 rising rapidly across the county, and Nottingham city’s rates currently the highest in the country, our Director of Public Health Jonathan Gribbin, is urging everyone to take extra steps to control the spread of the virus in our communities.

Jonathan said “The virus needs people mixing together to be able to spread. That’s why we are taking a common sense approach now. We’re advising people in the county and the city not to mix with other households in indoor settings, unless they are in your support bubble. This is in addition to the ‘Hands, Face, Space’ guidance which already exists.”

As the rates are so high, we are expecting the government to impose further restrictions soon. There’s a lot of speculation about what these restrictions might be and uncertainty about what we will or will not be allowed to do as a result. We don’t have the details yet, but when the government makes the announcement we will share further information and details.

However we don’t want to wait until the announcement is made. As Jonathan says: “The rates are rising sharply now and we need to act now. Everyone needs to do everything they can to help contain the virus. We know enough now to introduce more measures locally. What we do now determines what happens in the weeks ahead."

Have you downloaded the NHS Test and Trace app?

We’re urging all residents of Nottinghamshire who have not yet downloaded the NHS Covid-19 ‘Test and Trace’ app to do so. So far, over 17 million people in England and Wales have downloaded and are using the app, and with the number of positive cases increasing, it’s one of the best things you can do to help fight the virus.
