New restrictions to reduce the spread of coronavirus

Yesterday the Prime Minister announced new restrictions to help stop the spread of coronavirus in England.

These new restrictions and changes include the following:

  •  From tomorrow (Thursday 24 September) pubs, bars and restaurants will be restricted to table service only and will close at 10pm. Table bookings of more than six are not allowed
  • You should work from home where possible. Where homeworking is not possible and in agreement with your employer you should continue as you are
  • Face masks are compulsory for bar staff and non-seated customers, retail workers and waiters
  • The "rule of six" now applies to indoor organised team sports for over 18s
  • The phased re-opening of stadiums for sports events has been paused
  • From Monday (28 September) the limit on guests at weddings will reduce from 30 to 15 (further detail below)
  • Fines for not wearing face coverings or following rules will increase to £200 for the first offence

The new restrictions have been judged to achieve the maximum reduction in the R number with minimum social and economic damage, whilst ensuring that schools and universities stay open.

Residents urged to download the NHS Covid-19 app

NHS Track and Trace

We’re backing the nationwide campaign to encourage as many people as possible to download and use the NHS Covid-19 ‘Test and Trace’ app which is being launched tomorrow (Thursday 24 September).

Using contact tracing, the app detects and logs other nearby app users. It also enables you to ‘check in’ when you visit a venue by scanning a QR code displayed on posters at the entrance. Both features will then inform you via an alert if someone you have come in to contact with later tests positive for coronavirus.

The app will also allow you to report symptoms and order a coronavirus test, as well as helping the NHS trace individuals that may have coronavirus.

In addition, the app will help the NHS understand if the virus is spreading in a particular area, and so enable local authorities  to respond quickly to stop it spreading further and - ultimately - help save lives. It does this while protecting user anonymity. Nobody, including the government, will know who or where you are.

To download the NHS Covid-19 app, from tomorrow search for ‘NHSCovid-19’ in the App store/Google Play Store on your phone.

Changes to the limit on wedding guests

Wedding

The Government has set out that from Monday 28 September existing guidance on 30 people being able attend weddings and civil partnership ceremonies will be reduced to 15 to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

Couples holding their ceremony at Mansfield registration office will now only be allowed 13 guests to reflect the change in guidance. West Bridgford, Arnold, Newark and Worksop offices have varying capacities which are listed on our website.

Ceremony numbers include the couple, witnesses, guests and any photographers in attendance, but do not include the two registrars allowed at each office to perform the ceremony.
