We're urging local people to do their bit as we seek to recruit a huge team of temporary social care and support workers to help provide vital care to older and disabled people across Nottinghamshire during the coronavirus crisis.

We are looking for people who can work flexibly 24/7 around the county. No previous experience needed, we will provide training and pay.

Births
If you’ve recently had a baby, you’re normally legally required to register the birth within 42 days. However, due to the Coronavirus, the registration of births has now stopped until further notice.

During this time, restrictions have been lifted so that you can claim child benefit or universal credit without registering the birth.

Marriages
No appointments for notice of marriage/civil partnership or any ceremonies will take place until further notice. If you have any other enquiries in relation to this, please contact your local registration office.

Deaths
If you’ve recently lost a loved one you must still register their death at one of the county’s registration offices. Only one person will be allowed to attend the arranged appointment.

Stay home. Protect the NHS. Save Lives

You should only leave the house for one of four reasons:

  • Shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible 
  • One form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household 
  • Any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person 
  • Travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home.

Calling 999 when it's not safe to speak

The following advice is from our colleagues at Nottinghamshire Police:

Sometimes it’s not safe for you to speak to one of our call handlers. Whether it is because you are in immediate danger or because it feels too overwhelming to talk, there is always a way for us to help you.

When you dial 999 from a mobile, you are put through to a call centre handled by BT operators who ask you which service you require. If you say nothing but something suspicious is heard by the operator, you are immediately transferred to the police.

While it is recommended that you always speak with our call handlers, Nottinghamshire Police understand that this is not always possible.

If making a sound would put you or someone else in danger you will be transferred to the Silent Solution system.

An automated message will then begin that begins with ‘you are through to the police’ – you will then be asked to press 55 to be put through to police call management. This does not allow police to track your location.

A call handler will then ask you yes or no questions to establish the best course of action. If you cannot speak, you need to listen carefully to what they ask you to do.

Please note that this is different for landlines. When using a landline, if there is no response from a caller, they will be connected to a police call handler immediately.

Domestic abuse helplines are available 24 hours a day and are there for anyone experiencing domestic or sexual abuse:
