Better Broadband for Nottinghamshire: April update 2016

We’re on target to get superfast broadband to more and more homes and business in Nottinghamshire.

In fact, our latest figures show that The Better Broadband for Nottinghamshire programme has already achieved its Contract 1 target, three months ahead of schedule!

Since February, a further 20 fibre enabled cabinets have been deployed across the County enabling almost 64,000 residents and businesses to access a network capable of delivering superfast speeds of up to 80Mbps.

Progress on The Better Broadband for Nottinghamshire programme Contract 2

Contract 2 was announced in November 2015 which included our commitment to deliver fibre broadband to a further 130 towns and villages across Nottinghamshire.

Thanks to our efforts to accelerate the programme, much of the work currently being undertaken is being delivered many months ahead of when originally planned.

Commencing delivery of Contract 2 sooner simply means we will be well on the way to achieving 98% countywide coverage by 2018.

We are very excited about the coming months and look forward to bringing you more updates on the success of the programme.

Basic Broadband for All – Satellite Scheme update

We wanted to remind you about the satellite scheme that was launched last year.

The number of applications has increased since our last update in February so if your download speeds are less than 2Mbps you may be able to take advantage of this scheme.

Read more about the scheme, including how to apply.

Over the coming weeks eligible premises within Nottinghamshire will also be receiving a leaflet from BDUK detailing further information about the scheme and how to apply.

Please remember to check the ‘Where and When Checker’ first to see the current plans for your postcode first. You never know, we may be coming to your village next!

Nottinghamshire Digital Champions Network

The Nottinghamshire Digital Champions’ Network (NDCN) is being delivered on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council by Digital Unite.

To find out more about what becoming a digital champion involves visit the Nottinghamshire Digital Champions Network website.

Residents at Lark Hill Retirement Village in Nottingham have been celebrating their new-found digital skills which they’ve gained thanks to the help of a Nottinghamshire Digital Champion.

Over the past 10 weeks local volunteer, Hugh Evans, has been helping the residents learn how to get the most out of life online. On Monday 21 March 2016 he and Councillor Diana Meale presented them with certificates to mark their digital achievements.
