Get
composting with your falling leaves Fallen leaves make great leaf mould if gathered and either piled
up in a corner of your garden or put into a black bag to decompose. It takes
about a year but the end product can be used as a potting mix for your seeds or
as a mulch. There’s plenty of other garden waste that can still be added to
your compost bin such as spent bedding plants, grass cuttings from your final
mow of the lawn, autumn leaves and prunings. These can all be recycled over the
coming months to produce nutritious compost ready for use in the garden next
spring.
The secret to really good compost is having a range of ingredients
in your mix. In addition to garden waste, you can also add in other materials
such as fruit and vegetable peelings, coffee grounds, tea bags, tissues,
cardboard egg boxes, newspaper and shredded paper.
