An excellent opportunity has arisen at North Kesteven District Council, as we seek an experienced heritage professional to join the Development Management team. This sole practitioner post puts you at the heart of our busy planning team, overseeing and guiding the protection, conservation and enhancement of our historic environment in the context of the incoming net zero carbon Central Lincolnshire Local Plan. North Kesteven is an area rich in built and archaeological heritage, with Conservation Areas in 37 towns and villages and a range of stately homes, halls and manor houses, registered parks and gardens, farmhouses, cottages and substantial historic former industrial and healthcare buildings. The district is hugely varied from urban areas in need of regeneration to open rural landscapes and villages, presenting a broad range of planning challenges and experiences.
Job Requirements:
- Educated to at least degree level or equivalent in historic building conservation (or related discipline) with demonstrable built heritage experience.
- Has or working towards full membership of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC)
- Experience of development management and good knowledge of guidance, legislation and planning policy relevant to the historic environment
- Good level of technical experience and knowledge of building conservation/historic buildings, including researching and preparing strategies, reports, appraisals and management plans and managing heritage grant funding schemes
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing technical advice in relation to planning applications affecting the historic environment including leading the heritage input to strategic regeneration projects within the District
- Reviewing existing Conservation Areas including the preparation of appraisals and management plans
- Assist with drafting Article 4 directions affecting the historic environment and proactively updating the Council’s local list of non-designated heritage assets.
- Leading the delivery of the Council’s heritage and Sleaford shopfront grant schemes
Key Attributes:
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate information and ideas clearly with an excellent customer focus
- Good knowledge of English architectural history and ideally an ability to recognise common defects and assist with devising suitable preservation, repair and enhancement solutions for historic buildings
- Highly organised, confident, and conscientious
- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- You will be required to apply a high level of attention to detail when carrying
out this role, to support the delivery of an effective and efficient Development Management service and to show an appreciation of the contribution local government can make to the welfare of the people living, working, and visiting the district., this could be the role for you.
