Thanks to everyone who joined us for our Food from the Forest event
A massive thank you to everyone who joined us for our Food from the Forest event at Yeo Valley!
It was a truly special day as we explored the wonders of foraging "food for free" in the heart of our beautiful community woodland. From sloes to hazelnuts, blackberries to haws, Yeo Valley Woodland is brimming with natural delights, and we had a fantastic time connecting with nature.
One of the highlights? Our hands-on apple pressing activity, where everyone had the chance to craft their very own fresh, organic apple juice – straight from the orchard to the press!
We hope everyone left with full hearts (and baskets!)
North Devon Council moves towards a greener future with electric vehicles
North Devon Council is making progress in its efforts to become more sustainable by starting to replace its vehicles with electric ones. After successful trials, the council will replace two diesel vehicles in its Parks Team with fully electric vans. This change is part of the council’s plan to reduce carbon emissions and improve efficiency.
Read all about it on our website.

An update from our parks team
Hydrangeas are making a major comeback! Once considered old-fashioned, they’re now available in a stunning range of colours - from classic pinks and blues to crisp whites and deep reds. With different flower sizes and shapes, these versatile plants are perfect for any garden!
Originally found in Japan and Asia, the name “hydrangea” comes from the Greek words hydro (water) and angeion (vessel) - a nod to how thirsty this species can be!
Check out this beautiful Hydrangea arborescens, still in full bloom even in October!

Back in July, our parks team were at Tarka Leisure Centre alongside Barnstaple in Bloom and the Britain in Bloom judges. The stunning planting at the Tarka Leisure Centre was assessed under the small business category, and we’re thrilled to announce that Tarka received a level 5 “outstanding” whilst Barnstaple in Bloom were awarded a gold overall.
A massive well done and heartfelt thanks to our amazing parks team and Barnstaple in Bloom for all your hard work and dedication.

Our Parks Team has been hard at work in Bicclescombe Park! They’ve removed the bedding plants and cut down the wildflower beds, allowing seeds to drop before clearing the vegetation to maintain low soil fertility. The grass has also been cut, with the mowing height raised to 50mm to give it some extra winter protection.
Thanks to the team for helping to keep our parks healthy and beautiful all year round!

What beautiful skies we’ve been witnessing lately! Last night, the Aurora graced us with its stunning display, and this morning’s sunrise was equally beautiful! Did you manage to snap any photos of the sky? |
