With just two shopping weeks left before Christmas, we’re so happy to see that North Devon's residents have continued to give their unwavering support to our local businesses. Despite another challenging year, our high street shops are reporting that businesses have been bustling in recent weeks - all thanks to the loyalty of North Devon's residents.

So we wanted to say "thank you" and simply ask you to keep doing what you're doing! Please continue to think local when buying your gifts and goodies. Your custom is just about the biggest Christmas gift you can give to our local business owners, who are so grateful for your ongoing support.

Late night shopping and free parking!

Don't forget that our towns are hosting late night shopping evenings on the two remaining Thursdays before Christmas.

In Barnstaple, both town centre shops and the Pannier Market will remain open until 9pm. The market, which is adorned with large Christmas wreaths displayed from the ceiling, is also open seven days a week during December.

A further draw for shoppers during the Christmas period is the free parking on offer at North Devon Council-managed car parks across the district on Thursdays from 3pm until charges resume the following morning. Shoppers will also be able to access free parking in all NDC-managed car parks from Monday 20 to Sunday 26 December, parking will be free from 4pm in Barnstaple, Ilfracombe and South Molton (from 3pm on Thursday 23 December).

Festive projections in our towns!

Some exciting festive projections have come to North Devon, have you spotted them whilst out in our town centres?

Look out for Santa climbing the Albert Clock in Barnstaple... If you don't see him there, you might find him sneaking around the walls of Barnstaple Pannier Market!

In Ilfracombe, spot two cheeky snowmen having a snowball fight at the Landmark theatre!

The projections really are magical - and just another great reason to head into our town centres to pick up your Christmas gifts this festive season. Don't miss them, take a visit into town before it's too late!

Masks

Reindeer wearing a face mask

From Friday 10 December, unless you're exempt, face coverings are required in most public indoor venues, such as cinemas, theatres and places of worship.

The government had already reintroduced masks in shops, on public transport and at hubs like railway stations.

By wearing your mask you are looking after other people's safety, as well as your own - and you're helping independent businesses to stay open.

Christmas lights switch-ons

Were you at the Christmas lights switch-ons in Barnstaple or South Molton?

A wonderful evening was had at each of the events, with festive entertainment from choirs and musicians, winter fairies, laser shows, festive stalls, late night shopping - and even appearances from the big man in red himself!

Check out videos of each of the nights on the NDC YouTube page:
