 Do:
- wear a face covering when you're out Christmas shopping - and anywhere where you aren’t able to keep two metres away from other people
- wash your hands before and after going out
- only meet up with people outside of your household or support bubble outdoors, following the rule of six. This means that you can grab a takeaway coffee with friends for a walk and chat outside, but you must go your separate ways to do your shopping
- follow the rules and guidance set out by shops for safe shopping and numbers of people inside and follow the queuing system if they're busy
- order a substantial meal if you want to have an alcoholic drink in a pub. You can order a non-alcoholic drink inside a pub without eating
- look out for our friendly Place Makers around Barnstaple town centre - they're there to remind you about following COVID-19 guidelines and help to keep everyone safe
Don’t:
- meet up with people outside of your household or support bubble inside any shops, pubs or restaurants - you can sit in a pub garden or outside restaurant area with people from different households but the rule of six applies outside too
- get too close to other shoppers. Stay two metres away where possible and make sure you follow the social distancing guidance in stores to maintain a safe distance
- leave all your shopping to the last minute – we know it will be busy but shops will be open later and longer so you don’t need to cram your shopping into the last Saturday before Christmas
Late night shopping returns to the high street
It's more important than ever that we return to our high streets to support our local shops, cafes, restaurants and leisure facilities; but we need to do so safely. This means making sensible decisions to avoid peak times where possible to enable social distancing.
In addition to the traditional late night shopping in Barnstaple on the Thursdays in December, many shops in our towns will be opening for extended hours during the build up to Christmas - so why not take the opportunity to avoid peak times and shop safely?
