Job Vacancy: General Maintenance Person

37 hours per week, permanent contract

Salary: £18,795 - £21,166 per annum

 

North Devon Council’s Housing Team is looking for a reliable, experienced general maintenance person to carry out small scale building maintenance and repair works to ensure the safe and cost-effective delivery of the Council’s temporary accommodation stock for homeless households.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out general maintenance and repairs: decorating and tiling, putting up curtain rails, cleaning out low level guttering, changing light bulbs
• Carrying out programmed safety checks of the interior and exterior of the property including PAT testing personal electrical appliances and equipment of the Council’s tenants to ensure they are safe for use
• Collecting household items left by previous tenants and any broken or soiled items. Transport the waste to the point of treatment or disposal
• Checking and maintaining the condition of tools, ladders, personal protection clothing and purchasing building materials and goods

Ideally you should have:

• City and Guilds PAT testing (2377-22 and 2377-32) qualifications or their equivalent
• Good DIY skills
• Experience of the safe use of hand and power tools, and ladders
• Experience of completing forms and reports, e.g. safety checks, works undertaken
• Experience of identify health and safety hazards on the spot and making quick decisions regarding your safety
• The ability to work co-operatively with other members of the team and contractors and effectively manage a changing work schedule
