EVERYTHING ELLIE Small grants for families across the South West of England affected by life threatening or life limiting illness. Application deadline – contact the Charity for details of application process. Everything Ellie was set up to benefit families affected by life threatening or life limiting illness or those affected by the impact of terminal illness. The core work of the charity is to provide families with the opportunity to have time away at the Beach Hut, a place of familiarity that provides everything a family needs to have time away from hospital appointments and treatment plans. In addition to the Beach Hut, Everything Ellie also provides family attraction tickets and short-term breaks during treatment or those with a terminal diagnosis. The Charity also offers small grants to families in the South West of England to pay for transport or other essential costs related to the Charity’s services. In most cases grants are not made directly to families, and instead are made to the professional agency working with the family. During this year ending 31 March 2018 the Charity provided the following: 25 families used the Beach Hut for a period of 1 - 4 days at a time. Although the Charity didn’t make any grants during this last financial year, it has a ring-fenced budget for grant-making. Further information about the Charity can be found on its website, Everything Ellie. Contact details for the Charity are: Justeen Easton or Rhiane Easton, Everything Ellie, The Alec Dickson Trust – deadline 1st July 2019 Grants up to £500 for UK volunteering projects that are run by and encourage volunteering by young people aged 30 and under while addressing a need in a local community. The Alec Dickson Trust (charity number 1076900) provides funding for innovative projects that support and encourage youth volunteering within the UK. Grants are available for projects in the applicant’s local area that involve people and can demonstrate that, through volunteering or community service, they can enhance the lives of others, particularly those most marginalised by society. The Trust particularly likes to fund projects that involve lots of volunteers, and/or encourage these young people to stay engaged as volunteers in the long term. The Trust defines volunteering as an activity carried out for the benefit of others where there is no financial gain involved for the volunteer. Projects should: Be run by a young volunteer, or team of young volunteers, the majority of whom are younger than 30 years old. Take place in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Have a clear benefit to others in the wider community. Encourage volunteering. The more volunteers involved, the better! Further information, together with an online application form is available on their website, Alec Dickson Trust Their contact details are The Alec Dickson Trust, 18-24 Lower Clapton Road, Hackney, London, E5 0PD. That bit at the end! Gift Aid Courses The Charity Knowledge Hub still have a few places left on their two day Gift Aid Workshop on 3rd and 4th July in Plymouth. The course aims to increase your confidence, improve your knowledge and discuss real life gift aid situations. Expert Paul Robinson (from Giftease) and others who work in the sector will be there to help. Day 1 looks at HMRC Gift aid, how you must maintain the Gift Aid audit trail and how to make a tax claim. Day 2 will give you an in-depth understanding of the benefit rules and how to ensure that you are complying with the Gift Aid rules. To book your course, or to find out more about this and other available courses visit www.thecharityknowledgehub.co.uk/ Calling all Sewists! In an attempt to help stop the use of plastic bags one group of sewists has come up with a fantastic idea… Why not use your sewing skills to help reduce the use of plastic bags and also reduce the need for the manufacture of yet more canvas tote bags or ‘bags for life’. The Morsbag project wants you to use recycled fabrics, such as old bedsheets or curtains to make your own cotton ‘Morsbags’ and distribute them. Each one has the potential to eliminate 100s of plastic bags over its lifetime. You could get a group together to make them. All the details are on the website. The group are calling for bags to be made and distributed to local retailers – for them to issue to customers instead of plastic bags instead of the customer buying another ‘bag for life’. This way the bags will be made from something that would have otherwise gone to landfill. Their website www.morsbags.com gives the instructions on how to make the bags and get them distributed in your area.
