The Hilden Charitable Fund Summer Play Scheme Grants

Grants ranging from 500 pounds to 1,500 pounds are available for UK voluntary and community groups to provide summer play schemes for disadvantaged children.  Deadline for applications is 4th June 2019.

The small grants scheme for Summer Play Schemes is available to voluntary and community organisations in the UK with an annual income of less than 150,000 pounds. There is no match funding requirement.

The Fund also operates a main grants and an overseas grants programme.  Its UK priorities are homelessness, penal affairs, asylum seekers and refugees, as well as community based initiatives for disadvantaged young people aged 16 to 25.  Hilden’s grant making priorities overseas are for projects in developing countries working on community development, education, and health.

The Fund particularly welcomes projects that address the needs and potential of girls and women.

Eligible projects must be:

  • Summer play schemes for children aged 5 to 18 years
  • Local schemes lasting for 2 to 6 weeks and
  • Schemes with strong volunteer support

Some priority will be given to projects that show they are inclusive of children from refugee families and show involvement of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) groups.

Further information together with an application form (which should be posted not emailed to the Fund) is available on their website www.hildencharitablefund.org.uk

Contact details for the Fund are:  The Hilden Charitable Fund, 34 North End Road, London

Devon Emergency Resilience Fund

Grants of up to 1,500 pounds are available to parishes with a community emergency plan, or who are developing such a plan.  Experience has shown that a wide range of small resilience measures can make a real difference to the risk in the community.

The fund is open for community groups, flood groups and parish/town councils, but not for individuals.  It is available through Devon Communities Together. If you do not yet have a plan in place you may still be eligible for a grant if you can show how the funding will support activity identified in a draft plan in development.

Funded by Devon County Council, and administered by Devon Communities Together, the Devon Emergency Resilience Fund is available to put these small resilience measures in place.  The fund can cover equipment and minor practical works that will reduce risk and provide immediate benefit to the community.

Full guidance and the application form are available www.devoncommunities.org.uk/grant-funding-emergency-flood-resilience

There is no closing date for applications, however the fund is limited and DCC urge communities to make early applications as it will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Beaverbrook Foundation

The Foundation makes charitable donations to Registered Charities for:

  • Capital expenditure, i.e. to acquire or upgrade physical assets such as buildings, fixtures and fittings, machinery, furniture and other equipment
  • Revenue / running costs, and
  • Special projects

The Trustees promote the concept of match funding and may make a payment conditional upon the applicant obtaining the remaining funding from other sources.  Grants are not normally considered to cover expenditure that has already been incurred or committed.

That bit at the end!

Get involved – Chance to win 25 pounds!

Standards of housing within the private rental sector can be poor due to the unbalanced nature of the local housing market, with some landlords not looking after their tenants the way they should.

North Devon Council are proposing to introduce civil penalties for landlords for certain housing offences as an alternative to prosecution. This could help raise standards in the private rented sector and improve our housing service by providing a revenue stream for the council.

To have your say, take part in a quick online consultation at northdevon.gov.uk/rent-consultation

By participating you’ll be in with a chance to win a 25 pounds cash prize.
