Meet the new Mayor of North Lincolnshire, Councillor Janet Longcake
Councillor Janet Longcake has been elected and sworn in as the 27th Mayor at the council’s annual Mayor Making ceremony. She succeeds Cllr John Briggs.
Each year the Mayor of North Lincolnshire chooses a charity, or charities, to support through the Mayor’s Appeal Fund. Cllr Longcake has chosen to support Bosom Family Support and Macmillan.
Council leader welcomes £20m Government cash for new health centre in Scunthorpe
A new £19.4m community diagnostic centre will be built in Scunthorpe town centre – one of six to open nationally as ‘one-stop shops’ for tests, checks and scans.
The centre will create capacity for an additional 146,000 appointments a year for residents to get X-Rays, MRI, ultrasound, and CT scans.

Avian Influenza (bird flu) outbreak
A case of avian influenza (bird flu) has been confirmed in a premises near West Butterwick in North Lincolnshire. People that fall within a 3km protection zone, need to register any birds, keep them housed and follow guidance.
People within a 10km surveillance zone still need to follow the guidance but don’t need to register or keep birds housed.

A community event to support parents and carers with their children starting school is taking place on Saturday 20 May between 10am and 3pm at The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe.

£2 bus fare cap extended
People can continue to get around for just £2 until 31 October 2023.
Bus fares will then be capped at £2.50 until November 2024, helping millions more passengers get out and about for less.

Park home residents urged to apply for help with fuel bills
Park home residents across North Lincolnshire are being urged to apply for help with energy costs.
The deadline for two Government support schemes, the Energy Bills Support Scheme Alternative Funding (EBSS AF) and Alternative Fuels Payment (AFP) is 31 May 2023.

CBeebies star to bring family fun to Normanby Hall Country Park
CBeebies presenter and star of Let's Play, Sid Sloane, will be performing at Normanby Hall Country Park for their two day spring bank holiday event.
Sid will take to the stage on Sunday 28 May but there will be bags of family fun across the park on both Sunday and Monday, including Billy Biscuit's Magic Show, a fun fair, cheerleading and dance shows from Feet2Beat Scunthorpe Fusion Cheerleading & Dance, Scunthorpe majorettes - Firestorm, live music from The Dominos and much more.

Pledge your support for Foster Care Fortnight
To celebrate Foster Care Fortnight™ from 15 to 28 May 2023, North Lincolnshire Council’s Fostering Recruitment Team will be pledging to complete 70,000 steps (the equivalent of around 45 miles) each week of the fortnight for the 70,000 children who are currently in care across the UK.
Could you join their team and pledge to complete a mile or challenge yourself to complete as many miles as possible during Foster Care Fortnight? Walk, run, cycle or swim – move in your own way.
