Declaration of Interest 2022-23 / Code of Conduct 2022-23

Each autumn term we send out the Declaration of Interest and Code of Conduct to every governor to complete.

Declaring your conflicts of interest is a legal requirement within the School Governance (Roles, Procedures and Allowances) (England) Regulations 2013 and for academies, in the Articles of Association and Academies Trust Handbook. However, making an annual declaration does not remove your requirement to make an oral disclosure of the interest and temporarily leave the meeting, where the interest is relevant to something being discussed. Please complete the 2022-23 Declaration of Interest Form by clicking on it as soon as possible (unless your academy has a different process).

The Governance Handbook states that effective governing bodies/boards set out clearly what they expect of individuals, particularly when they first join. A code of conduct should be maintained and communicated to all prospective appointees to set clear expectations of their role and behaviour. The code of conduct has been updated to include new additions in line with the NGA. Please complete the 2022-23 Governor Code of Conduct by clicking on it as soon as possible (unless your academy has a different process).

Skills Audit 2022-23

Skills audit

Governing bodies/boards have been undertaking skills audits in order to recruit governors and establish training needs and have been doing so on an annual basis, however, this has been adhoc across the year.

Last year some schools trialled organising a training plan with the Clerk at the autumn term meeting for the year ahead and this worked extremely well to sign up roles to training. This will be rolled out to all governing bodies/boards this year.

To support with this Governor Services has set up a new skills audit for this academic year and would like all governors to complete this (unless you have done so in the summer term), so that the completed matrix can be considered alongside the training needs at autumn term meetings.

In order to do this, could all governors complete the 2022-23 Skills Audit by clicking on it as soon as possible.

New Safeguarding Training Courses / Resources

Over the summer, Karen Hackett (Safeguarding Officer - LA) has written a Safeguarding Induction for governors to ensure that governors are aware of all the places that safeguarding training can be accessed to assure the governing body/board that all have completed safeguarding training on commencing the role as well as regularly each year through their term of office as per the KCSiE 2022.

This safeguarding induction information is a great resource for all governors not just new governors so please have a read of it by clicking on it, it gives you a wider variety of sources that, as governors, you can access for safeguarding training.

The information sheet will be added to our Governor Induction Pack to be circulated to all new governors. Please remember to let the Clerk know what training you have accessed, with which provider, and the date carried out to ensure they can add this to your school's/academy's governor training record.
