Welcome to 20-21 Visual Arts Centre
Welcome to the October e-Newsletter from 20-21 Visual Arts Centre.
We’ve been thrilled over these past months to welcome so many of you back to 20-21. Certainly our recent exhibitions by Andy Cropper and Jamie Frost proved very popular with everyone. We’re starting to look ahead now with exhibitions to carry us through into the New Year, with an emphasis on providing something for all the family.
Our Covid Secure precautions are still in place. You don’t need to book your visit in advance, but we do ask that you wear a face covering and register your visit for NHS Test and Trace. Use the hand sanitiser provided and maintain social distancing in order to help keep everyone safe. We look forward to welcoming you.
If you can’t get to 20-21 Visual Arts Centre physically, or you’d like to take a look around before you visit, take a look at our virtual 3D gallery tour, where you can explore the building and take a look around some of our previous exhibitions online.

WOW! Said the Owl is a family friendly and very interactive exhibition which will be on show at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre through the autumn, the Christmas period and into the New Year. Based on the much-loved children’s book, by Tim Hopgood, the show has been specially designed to appeal to families and especially under five-year olds, with lots of bright, colourful sensory and playful elements.
The exhibition seeks to give children the same sense of wonder and amazement as the owl in the story who stays up all day, by introducing them to colours and inviting them to be creative by enjoying interactive elements of the show.
Because of Covid 19, the number of interactives in the exhibition has been reduced, however there's still plenty to do. As only one group/bubble of up to six people will be allowed into the exhibition area at a time you'll have room to explore those interactives with your children without worrying about social distancing. We want to ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable experience, so we ask that everyone plays their part and follows the procedures, looks after their children and is respectful of other families and staff members.
If you are a nursery or playgroup leader and would like to find out about free under 5’s workshop opportunities and group visits, contact laura.higgins@northlincs.gov.uk or 01724 296039 to find out more.
WOW! Said the Owl is a touring exhibition for under-fives and their families, designed by Tim Hopgood and organised by The Young Art Explorers Association, with thanks to Arts Council England and Macmillan Children’s Books.

19 September 2020 – 9 January 2021
When our call went out in August for artists to re-imagine the cover of the iconic crime novel Get Carter, we had no idea that we’d receive such a wide range of submissions in response. Twenty five artists answered the call, with book covers incorporating everything from Playmobil to typewriter art.
Barton-upon-Humber author, artist, illustrator and musician Ted Lewis is best known for creating the character Jack Carter, the protagonist in the 1971 cult film Get Carter, starring Michael Caine. Originally published in 1970 as Jack’s Return the book was soon reissued under the same title as the film adaptation. It’s generally considered to be the classic modern crime novel.
Our exhibition of art inspired by Ted Lewis and his work also included a selection of first editions of his novels, on loan from the archives collection of North Lincolnshire Library and lots of information about this local author.
