Nominate your Community Champion

Community Champion

Nomination deadline extended - 6 October

Due to a slight issue with the online form, some people were not able to access it to nominate their community champion. The problem has been sorted out now so we have decided to extend the closing date for nominations until Sunday 6 October.

With only a few days left to nominate for this year’s Community Champion Awards, North Lincolnshire Council is looking for people with remarkable achievements to be recognised.

There are 23 awards in 4 categories, Inspiration, Achievement, Community and Volunteering. See the council website for a full list of the awards or download the leaflet which also contains the criteria for each award.

The awards ceremony is taking place on Thursday 28 November 2019 at The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe to recognise unsung heroes.

Nominate your Community Champions online, where you can also find out more details.

If you are not able to nominate online, call 01724 297270 during office hours or email:  community.recreation@northlincs.gov.uk for a form.

The closing date for nominations has now been extended to 6 October 2019 due to a previous technical fault with the online nomination form.

Get stepping!

walking

Challenge 10,000 takes place this month across North Lincolnshire, it aims to encourage people to walk up to 10,000 steps a day as a means to help improve health and wellbeing.  Even if you missed out on signing up for challenge 10,000 you can still get moving this October.

Enormous benefits can be reaped by getting moving more.  Walking is simple, free and one of the easiest ways to get more active, lose weight and become healthier.  Sometimes overlooked as a form of exercise, walking briskly can help you build stamina, burn excess calories and make your heart healthier.  You do not have to walk for hours. A brisk 10-minute daily walk has lots of health benefits and counts towards your recommended 150 minutes of weekly exercise.

On our activity guide are details of lots of walks and runs that take place in various locations throughout North Lincs.

World Mental Health Day 2019

mental health

The World Mental Health Organisation recognises World Mental Health Day on 10 October every year.  This year’s theme set by the World Federation for Mental Health is suicide prevention.

Some people call mental health ‘emotional health’ or ‘well-being’ and it’s just as important as good physical health.  Mental health is everyone’s business.  We all have times when we feel down or stressed or frightened.  Most of the time those feelings pass.  But sometimes they develop into a more serious problem and that could happen to any one of us.

Many people don’t even feel comfortable talking about their feelings. But it’s healthy to know and say how you’re feeling.

Find out more about what you can do to look after your mental health.

The NHS and MIND both have some really useful information online.
