15 hours of childcare a week for three and four year olds
Will your child turn three on or before 31 March 2019?
If the answer is yes, then they are automatically entitled to up to 15 hours of funded childcare per week for 38 weeks a year with a registered childcare provider until they go into reception class. All you need to do is choose a nursery, pre-school or childminder offering the funding and check they have a place available for your child to start after Easter.
You can find advice on how to choose a childcare provider on our website and contact details for local childcare providers near you on our Family Information Directory.
Get up to 30 hours funded childcare per week
If you are a single parent and earn at least £125 per week or in a couple where both of you work and earn this amount per week then you may be eligible to double your entitlement to up to 30 hours per week for 38 weeks a year.
To claim the 30 hours, parents must apply online to the Government on the Childcare Choices website.
However, do not delay as parents are being encouraged to apply before the end of February to be sure of receiving their eligibility code in time for the summer term.
Already getting the 30 hours or Tax Free Childcare?
Parents already receiving the 30 hours or Tax Free Childcare must reconfirm their eligibility every three months or their funding will stop. Check your childcare account today to see if you need to update your details or you may face a large bill next term.
Funded childcare for two year olds
Some two year olds are also eligible for 15 hours of funded childcare per week depending on their family circumstances, but not the 30 hours. If your child turns two on or before 31 March 2019 then you will be able to make an online application from 18 February onward.
The online application will give you an instant decision as to whether you can get the funding or not, unless you need to provide any extra information to support your claim. Eligible children will be given a unique reference number at the end of the application which the parent must take to their chosen childcare provider for them to verify.
Your childcare provider, local Children’s Centre or the Family Information Service can also offer you an assisted application in person or over the phone if you would prefer.

We are looking for parents and carers who have used or are using the 15 or 30 hours of funded childcare for their two, three or four year olds and who are looking for a new challenge in 2019.
Parent Champions are volunteers who work alongside the Family Information Service to speak to other parents in their local community about the benefits to them and their child of using funded childcare. Maybe you already do this with your friends or other parents you meet at local playgroups and did not realise this makes you a Parent Champion!
There is no minimum or maximum amount of time volunteers need to pledge to being a Parent Champion and full training will be given. You will have the support of a volunteer coordinator as well as the opportunity to meet and share with other Parent Champions.
This is an ideal opportunity for anyone who has benefited from the funding themselves and wants to support other parents to do the same. You will gain valuable experience in a friendly environment which will support you if you are looking at starting in employment or going back to work after the birth of your children.
Volunteering as a Parent Champion can also work alongside your current full or part-time job. There is also the opportunity to gain a Level 1 qualification if you wish.
Mums, dads or grandparents, you are all welcome to come and work with us as a volunteer Parent Champion.
If you are interested in this exciting and rewarding new role, or for more information please call us during normal office hours on 01724 296629 or email fis@northlincs.gov.uk.
