North Lincolnshire Council and North East Lincolnshire
Council are backing the PHE Heart Age Campaign in September to raise awareness
of the importance of making simple changes to your health.
The Heart Age Campaign 2018, aimed at 40 to 60 year-olds,
launches on 4 September and runs until 30 September.
The campaign aims to increase the understanding of the
importance of knowing your heart age and blood pressure, and to ensure that as
many adults as possible complete the Public Health England Heart Age Test and
have their blood pressure checked. Read more...
Adults are encouraged to take a few minutes out of their
day to get to know their heart age by taking the free online test. It asks
physical and lifestyle related information, as well as blood pressure and
cholesterol, and determines if someone’s heart is at a higher age than their
actual age. To take the test, visit the Adult Information Hub website.
During September there will be a number of free drop-in
sessions for people to have their blood pressure checked and get advice on
their general health and wellbeing in North Lincolnshire. See the Wellbeing Hub article below for details.

The Community Wellbeing Hubs are holding free Blood Pressure Checks in conjunction with the Healthy Lifestyle Service during “Know Your Numbers” Week, 10-16 September.
People often know their height and weight, but ignore their blood pressure. High Blood Pressure can increase the risk of heart attack, stroke and heart failure as well as being a risk factor for kidney disease, dementia and some eye conditions. Many people have high blood pressure and have no symptoms, but it can be treated and often prevented if you know that you are at risk.
The Free sessions at the Community Wellbeing Hubs are an opportunity to find out “Your Numbers” and get some advice on how to lower your blood pressure or prevent it from becoming high.
During September there will be a number of free drop-in sessions for people to have their blood pressure checked and get advice on their general health and wellbeing in North Lincolnshire. Visit the North Lincolnshire Healthy Lifestyle Service at the following Wellbeing Hubs:
The Community Wellbeing Hubs provide advice and support for vulnerable adults in North Lincolnshire. There are lots of activities taking place in the hubs and local communities. Take a look at the Hub Newsletter for more details.

After such a wonderful summer and being able to enjoy the outdoors, we are heading to autumn and the nights are drawing in. It would be very easy to switch into hibernation mode, close the curtains and wait until spring to re-surface.
Please don't let this happen. In fact it is much more important to exercise in the winter and keep active and moving as the cold causes your blood vessels to constrict, which in turn thickens the blood, and this natural process alone makes the heart work harder, which puts you at a higher risk of a heart attack.
Cold and Flu bugs are also more common in the winter, along with chest infections, so remaining fit and healthy is more important when it’s cold to help fight off infections and stay well.
There are lots of activities for you to get involved in such as the Normanby Hall Park Run, North Lincolnshire Leisure Centres, Walking Your Way to Health to name just a few. If these aren't your cup of tea, take a look at the activities taking place in the Wellbeing Hubs where there are all types of groups including Chair Based Exercise, New Age Kurling and Indoor Bowls.
Check out the What's On Guide on the Council website or the Adult Hub Activity Guide. There's plenty of choice for everyone.
