Carers support

Carers Week 11-17 June 2018

Carers' Week takes place annually to raise awareness of the role of carers, highlighting the challenges they face and the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

The campaign is supported by thousands of individuals and organisations who come together and organise activities and events throughout the UK, drawing attention to just how important caring is.

Caring can be very rewarding, but without the right support it can have a negative impact on your health, career, finances and relationships. When you are caring for someone, it is really important to ensure that you look after yourself too.

Where can you get advice and support?

The Family Carers' Team, North Lincolnshire Council  on 01724 298393, email familycarerteam@northlincs.gov.uk or visit the Adult Information Hub website.

Carers' Support Centre, Brigg on 01652 650585, email: info@carerssupportcentre.com or visit their website.

Join in with the Fundraising Walk over the Humber Bridge on Sunday 10 June, for more information see the attached flyer or call 01652 650585.

Men's Health Week 11-17 June 2018

mens health

Led by the Men’s Health Forum, this year Men’s Health Week 2018 will focus on men and diabetes.

Currently one man in ten has diabetes and this is expected to increase over the next 20 years if nothing is done to tackle it now.

Men are also more likely to suffer complications or face amputation from diabetes which is why it is so important that this issue is addressed.

Find out more or sign up for Men’s Health Week here.

Diabetes

Diabetes Week 11-17 June 2018

Diabetes Week takes place in June every year. It’s a time when our supporters come together to share their stories and to raise awareness of diabetes.

Talking about diabetes can be tricky, awkward, difficult, funny, and everything in between. From telling someone you’ve just met about your diabetes, to trying to explain carb counting to relatives or avoiding that conversation with your doctor.

This Diabetes Week, we want to make it easier for you to have those conversations, with your doctor, your friends and family, and people you’ve just met. We want to get you talking.

If you have any questions about Diabetes Week, contact us at diabetesweek@diabetes.org.uk or visit www.diabetes.org.uk

We're encouraging residents to take up home composting to help reduce the amount of waste they produce and recycle more.

Home composting is simple to do and once you get started, you will be surprised at just how much daily household waste can be recycled. It also has the added benefit of producing a free supply of top quality compost which has a range of uses including as a soil improver, mulch or plant feed and helps your garden retain moisture.

On Your Bike!

cycling

Cycling is a great way to get out and about the local area this summer.  Would you like to get out on your bike but don’t know where to start?  The Let’s Ride website is a great source of information about bike riding around your local area.  Let’s Ride organise everything from huge traffic-free bike rides through major towns and cities, to small local rides which are great for families and beginners.  Volunteers are trained to lead and inspire rides all over the country, they also help you to find great cycling routes and people to explore them with.

Part of Let’s Ride, HSBC UK Breeze, offers fun, free bike rides – as well as plenty of support and inspiration – for women of all abilities, all across the UK. The rides are grouped into three categories: easygoing, steady and challenging. Choose the one which seems to best fit you, and once you’ve found a ride you like, read the ride description to get more detail about what’s involved. Rides go at the speed of the slowest rider, and friendly Breeze Champions will make sure nobody is left behind.

There is also some information about all things cycling related on the North Lincs Council website.
