North Lincolnshire Council is supporting Bowel Cancer Awareness Month in April and is raising awareness of bowel cancer screening at home for men and women over 60 years-old.
Every
30 minutes in the UK someone dies from bowel cancer. But early diagnosis saves
lives. Visit the website now for free copies of the handy
symptoms guide to share with family and friends.
Bowel cancer is the
UK’s second biggest cancer killer, however it shouldn’t be because it is
treatable and curable, especially if diagnosed early. Nearly everyone diagnosed
at the earliest stage will survive bowel cancer but this drops significantly as
the disease develops.
Early diagnosis really does save lives
Read more on the council website or visit the Bowel Cancer UK website.
If you want to know what the symptoms to look out for are watch this video.

The NHS are conducting a review of the Humber Acute Services and they have produced a document called the 'Issues Paper' to set out some of the big challenges the NHS and other health
and care bodies in the Humber area are facing. It describes some of the work
that NHS bodies, local Councils and other health and care organisations are
doing in partnership to help improve local heath and care services.
The document has been produced in order to
start a conversation with local people, staff and other interested parties. It is hoped, through this
Issues Paper, to highlight some of the really
difficult challenges that our local health and care system is facing in the
Humber area and welcome thoughts and ideas about how best to respond to them
from a wide range of people.
You can read
the whole document on their website or request a paper copy via the contact
details below.
To provide
your feedback and ideas, you can contact Humber Acute on this link or fill out an online survey.

Taking up running can seem like a scary prospect, especially if you feel out of shape or unfit.
NHS Couch to 5K will help you gradually work up towards running 5K in just 9 weeks.
What is Couch to 5K?
Couch to 5K is a running plan for absolute beginners. It was developed by a new runner, Josh Clark, who wanted to help his fifty-something mum get off the couch and start running, too.
The plan involves 3 runs a week, with a day of rest inbetween, and a different schedule for each of the 9 weeks.
For details of how to get started and to download the free app, visit the NHS Choices website.
There are podcasts and coaching, by celebrities, available via the app to encourage you all the way.

Carer Peer Support Groups
Caring for someone can be a rewarding experience, but it can also be lonely, boring, frustrating, frightening and stressful.
The Carers' Support Service is here to support you through the difficult times and a Carer Peer Support Groups can offer the empathetic support that only another carer can give.
Groups meet regularly throughout North Lincolnshire. They are a great way to meet other carers, socialise, develop friendships and share information.
There are some groups that focus on a particular group of carers, such as parent carers and some groups may focus on a particular condition such as the Dementia Peer Support Group.
You will be made very welcome at any of the support groups. If your caring role stops you from attending a Peer Support Group, contact us to discuss.
Further information is available from the Carers' Support Service on 01652 650585 or
email info@carerssupportcentre.com
