Help raise the profile of mental health, it's good to talk.
Most of us, at some time or another, face difficulties with work, money, health or housing. At such times, you can feel isolated, alone or helpless.
The Back on Track self help guide aims to show that help is available, and that the solutions are often surprisingly simple.
Older people are as susceptible to mental health problems as younger people, having to cope with ongoing illness, pain, and the death of a partner and friends.
Evidence suggests that there is a high level of depression and anxiety in older people who are socially isolated and that there is a connection between social isolation and poor physical health.
Older people often fail to recognise that they have a mental health problem dismissing low mood and loss of interest in their community and surroundings as an inevitable part of ageing. This is not always the case, so if you have been feeling low, it is important to contact your GP.
Further information is available on the council Mental Health and Wellbeing page and the Mental Health and Older People's webpage.

If you’re worried that you, or someone close to you, may have dementia, it can be difficult to talk about. You may feel scared, confused or even ashamed. You may also be hoping that the problem will go away so you don’t have to deal with it.
We all bury our heads in the sand from time to time. But if you’re seriously concerned, and the problem continues, it’s important to talk to someone about it. The sooner you know what you’re dealing with, the sooner you can get on with your life and feel in control again.
That’s why this Dementia Awareness Week (14 to 20 May 2017) is all about opening up. We want anyone who is concerned about dementia to talk to the Alzheimer’s Society.
Visit the Alzheimer's Society website for lots of useful information.

Walking Netball sessions are taking place in the main sports hall at The Pods, 10am to 11am every Friday. The cost is £3.50 per session. There is no need to book, but participants are asked to arrive 15 minutes early for registration.
Walking Netball has evolved from a growing demand for walking sports. One of netball’s strengths is that people never forget playing the sport, and the memories – and the love for the game never leaves. Walking Netball has all the excitement and action of the normal game, but at a pace that everyone can enjoy, no matter their age or fitness level.
Taking part in team sports can give those who feel isolated an outlet, provide an activity for those who don’t deem themselves fit enough to run anymore, and offer a stepping stone for those looking for a pathway back into netball.
