Get excited about science over the mid-term break at the Summerlee Science Festival at Summerlee Museum from Friday 11 - Wednesday 16 February!
Build bots that walk, crawl, roll and even float on water with Solar Movers – Science and Fun on Saturday 12 February at 10.30am and 1pm. It’s a fun way to learn about solar energy. Capture the result on your phone against a great studio projected backdrop. Perfect for any fans of Airfix or similar kits. Suitable for 12 years and above. Tickets cost £5 and must be booked in advance.
Summerlee Museum is an industrial site reclaimed by nature and is now home to a surprising range of animal and bird life, as well as some fascinating plants and trees. Join Jackie Gilliland, Countryside Ranger, on a guided nature walk through the woodland and waterways of Summerlee Museum on Saturday 12 February at 11am and 1pm. Tickets for the free Guided Nature Walks must be booked in advance.
Take a guided tour of Summerlee Museum focusing on the iron and coal industries in Coatbridge and the impact the town, and the wider industrial revolution, had on climate change. The ‘From Coal to Climate Change Guided Tour’ will use the archaeological site of the Summerlee Ironworks as well as exhibits in the main display to develop an understanding of emissions levels during the Victorian era and their relationship to climate change today. The free tours will take place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 February at 2pm. Suitable for teens and adults. Tickets must be booked in advance.
Step inside the ThinkScience inflatable planetarium for a guided tour of the sky above you, exploring the science and the stories behind some of the stars and planets in the night sky on Sunday 13 February at 10.30am, 11.30am, 1pm and 2pm. Suitable for all ages. Tickets cost £3 and must be booked in advance.
