Hospice Ambassadors

Our S6 Hospice Ambassadors organised a non-uniform day on Friday 8 October. An amazing £1000 was raised which has been shared between our two local hospices Strathcarron and St. Andrew's. Our Hospice Ambassadors are pictured handing over the cheques.

Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award

Julia Mattes (S4) and Cara Prinsloo (S6) have both recently completed their Silver Award for Duke of Edinburgh. The girls had to complete a 3-day expedition as well as a prolonged period of six months volunteering in their local communities. They also had to complete various activities showcasing a variety of skills and qualities.

This is a fantastic achievement and the girls have shown great time-management and dedication to complete this whilst making time for their busy curricular commitments.

Well done to Julia and Cara.

Army Cadets

Stephen Hart (S4) and Damien Lyzwa (S4) are members of the Army Cadets and they recently travelled to Bisley with their battalion to represent Scotland in the bi-annual Bisley Cadet Competition. Hundreds of teams from all over the UK gathered to compete and demonstrate their skills.

This was a fantastic experience for the boys - well done.

COP26 / Laudato Si' Poster Competition

The St Andrew’s Foundation for Catholic Teachers recently ran a competition to raise awareness of COP26 and Laudato Si. The competition was open to all school pupils across Scotland and over 1700 entries were received.

Congratulations to Katie Rodgers (S2) who won the S1-3 age category and Hanna Nowak (S2) who was one of the 3 runners up in this category. Both girls won a University of Glasgow goody bag and their posters are currently being displayed at the University. In addition, Katie will receive a framed copy of her poster which will be presented at a lunch for all the winners. Well done girls!

Action on Climate Together

On Thursday 28 October, 29 of our pupils from S1-S6 attended the Education & Families Action on Climate Together “How can we make a difference” Virtual Conference.

The event explored what young people can do at home, at school or how they can change their lifestyles to help mitigate climate change. This was an excellent opportunity for our pupils and they all enjoyed the day!

Global Day of Action

A group of our senior school pupils accepted the invitation from SCIAF to join the Faith and Beliefs Bloc at the Global Day of Action event in Glasgow on Saturday 6 November. They were joined by Mr Dunlop and Miss Sharkey as they walked through Glasgow from Kelvingrove Park to Glasgow Green following others from different faiths and nationalities to show their support for those most in need in our world. They joined the campaign for social and climate justice and answered the call of Pope Francis to hear ‘the cry of the poor and the cry of the earth.’ The young people were a credit to our school and their families.

S1 Numeracy Event

As a follow up to activities during Maths Week Scotland, all S1 pupils attended an Assembly delivered by the Maths Department. The Assembly focussed on 'Maths Experts' and department shared information on some of the experts that influence them. They also explored some strategies to become more expert in Mathematics.

All S1 pupils were then issued with a Family Learning pack which contains information on approaches used in Maths, a Home Learning guide with tips on how to successfully organise homework, and some stationery and treats too! All S1 were also issued with a brand-new scientific calculator to help them through their Maths journey at Our Lady's.

Rights Respecting School

OLHS is becoming a Unicef UK Rights Respecting School!

Our Lady’s High School aims to be a school where children’s rights are at the heart of our ethos and culture, to improve well-being and to develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential.

As part of this plan we are working towards recognition as a ‘Rights Respecting School’, an award given to schools on behalf of Unicef UK.

Our Lady’s High School pupils will learn about their rights by putting them into practice every day. A Rights Respecting School models rights and respect in all its relationships.
