new payment system is being set up for pupils who receive free school meals - this includes all primary 1 to primary 3 pupils.

It will start on Friday 27 March and run throughout the current health crisis.

Free school meals are available at the 10 town hubs established to support children of key workers daily between 12.30pm and 1.15pm.

Play areas closed

All play parks in North Lanarkshire are now closed.

As the surfaces of play equipment could be a way of the coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading, we would ask the public to assist by not using these facilities.

Please note: safety inspections of the play equipment will not be carried out during this time.

Closure of council buildings

Fleming House in Cumbernauld and the Civic Centre, Motherwell are closed to members of the public.

Waste services

Household Waste Recycling Centres are closed and our trade waste and special uplift services have been cancelled.

Household waste collection continues as scheduled.

If you had booked a special uplift, you will be contacted directly by our customer contact centre and a refund will be provided.

Please do not phone the contact centre, as lines are extremely busy.

Country Parks

Vehicle access and car parking is closed at Palacerigg, Drumpellier and Strathclyde Country parks.

Committee Business

All meetings of council committees, the council, and elected member surgeries have been stood down.

Any urgent business will be progressed through the chief executive's delegated authority.

Registration

All registration offices are closed to the public until further notice.

We are waiting on new emergency legislation to allow registrations to continue.

  • Death registrations will be given priority when the legislation is passed.
  • Birth registrations are postponed until further notice and you do not need to worry about the 21 day registration period.
  • Marriage and civil partnership ceremonies have been postponed.

In the meantime, for further information call:

  • Airdrie: 01236 758080
  • Cumbernauld: 01236 632740
  • Motherwell: 01698 302206

Cemeteries

In line with government recommendations, only immediate family are permitted to attend burials.

Licensing

All planned meetings of the Regulatory Committee and Licensing Board are cancelled until further notice.

All civic government licences are being automatically extended for three months.

Please note that all licensing enquiries can only be dealt by email, telephone or by pre-arranged appointment at the current time.

The taxi-testing service is also being scaled back.

Housing

Our Repairs Service for now will be focused on emergency repairs, with all non-emergency repairs suspended in the meantime.

Priority adaptations and work to void properties will continue, as will works to non-housing properties and legislative works programmes including gas servicing.

We're hoping to continue the capital works programmes but this will not include works where access is needed to tenant homes, including heating upgrades, window/door replacements and kitchen/bathroom renewals.

Planning and building standards

Our teams are working to keep your applications progressing, however, there is likely to be a delay in responding to enquiries and dealing with your application.

More information on planning.

Complaints

As the impact on our services will be significant, and our ability to maintain standard timescales will be impossible, we are suspending our complaints handling procedure.

You can still contact us to request a service but must understand that delays are inevitable and we will be unable to process any complaints.

Antisocial behaviour

A limited service is currently in operation.

We cannot carry out home visits or respond to requests for professional witnessing.

We can continue to offer the 24/7 advice service on 0300 123 1382 but please note that although reports will be logged, we can only give advice at this time.
