Fireworks

The 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing will be the theme of this year’s fireworks displays on Tuesday 5 November at Strathclyde Country Park.

Organised by North and South Lanarkshire Councils, the event starts from 6.30pm with the bonfire being lit at 7.15pm and the fireworks display at 8.00pm.

A funfair, provided by M&Ds Scotland’s Theme Park, will run from 4.30pm to 9.30pm near the Watersports Centre. The Clyde 1 roadshow with Ewen and Cat will entertain the crowds with music and entertainment throughout the evening, with a performance by X Factor contestants Misunderstood.

On Monday 4 November, three events will take place at:

  • Airdrie Leisure Centre
  • Drumpellier Country Park in Coatbridge, and
  • St Maurice’s High School, Cumbernauld.

Music at these venues start at 6.00pm with the fireworks displays starting at 7.30pm.

At Drumpellier Country Park, parking is available at St Ambrose High School and Lochview Golf Centre. There is limited parking within Drumpellier Country Park, including disabled parking, and the car park there will close at 6:30pm. We would encourage people to bring a torch and wear reflective clothing as some areas are not lit. Parking restrictions will be in place on Townhead Road and Gartcosh Road.

Visitors to the Strathclyde Country Park event are advised to allow plenty of time for their journey, to follow road signs and directions from police and marshals, and to park responsibly.

Sparklers are not allowed within the venues, and visitors should dress appropriately for the weather.

Glow in the dark wristbands are available for children to wear at the four fireworks events to help in reuniting parents and children if they become separated. The bands will be available in advance at the Watersports Centre in Strathclyde Country Park and M&D’s, as well as at the events themselves.
