Workshop of the Empire 19 April – 16 June Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life
Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life will host an exhibition of fascinating archival images as part of their new exhibition, Workshop of the Empire.
Workshop of the Empire will showcase historic photographs and images of factories, the workers and the goods they produced, showing how North Lanarkshire’s status as a major industrial powerhouse was achieved.
The exhibition includes superbly detailed photographs of miners working at the coalface, steel workers hand-charging at furnaces, wagon-builders and boiler makers on the shop floor. The images provide an insight into the skills, exertion and ingenuity of local companies as they endeavored to make their mark on the global economy during the mid-nineteenth to early twentieth century.
Workshop of the Empire is a free exhibition and opens 19 April – 16 June at Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life.
