Headteacher's Message

Sun

We have come to the end of another very busy and successful school session. I would like to thank all staff for their hard work and dedication to our young people. Well done to all our pupils for their achievements over the past year. Thank you to all parents/carers and families for their continued support.

A special thanks and farewell to Mrs Jennifer McColl and Mrs Jennifer Ferguson who both take up posts in Chryston High School and to Mrs Loraine Duncan, classroom assistant. We will miss them very much.

I wish all pupils, parents, families and staff a wonderful summer holiday.  I hope the sun shines on you wherever you are.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Mr Dominic Kennedy who has been appointed to the seconded post of Secondary Advisor for the Scottish Attainment Challenge in North Lanarkshire.

Mr Kennedy will take up this post after the summer holidays.

Blackpool

Blackpool

On Thursday 22 June, 294 pupils went to Blackpool Pleasure Beach as a reward for their hard work and effort over the past year. The pupils were a credit to the school.

Italy

On Sunday 18 June, 32 Geography students flew to Naples, Italy. The trip allowed pupils to visit an active volcano and active tectonic area as well as seeing the effect volcanoes have on people. In addition, they gained an understanding of coastal features and Italian culture.

Italy

New York

NY

On Saturday 24 June, pupils from the Music department departed Manchester airport for New York!

During their time in New York, pupils attended Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral, visited cultural historic sites and did some shopping with the girls making purchases in Sephora.

NET Ministries

NET

Friday 16th June was a memorable day for our new sixth year as they enjoyed a retreat day. The retreat was led by a youth team from NET Ministries Scotland and the theme was 'Fully Alive'.  The students were involved in various workshops, prayer sessions, a quiz, drama and role plays throughout the day and were a credit to the school in the way they fully engaged with the Team members and all the different activities.  All the students commented very favourably on the day.  Some examples of student comments:

'I really enjoyed working with the youth team from NET ministries'

'The small workshop groups were fun as we got to talk more in depth about subjects'

'I related to the stories the team told about how they found their faith'

The feedback from sixth year students has been so positive that this retreat day will now be a regular feature of senior phase induction days.

Mrs Grattan

Mrs Grattan

Mrs Betty Grattan, who has been our chief invigilator for over two decades, has stepped down from her role. To mark the occasion Betty was presented with a bouquet by sixth year student Hannah Burns. Betty has led her team of invigilators with confidence and good humour for so long that she seems integral to the whole season of SQA exams within St Aidan’s.

Mrs Claire Connelly, Head Teacher, commented on Betty’s contribution to the school saying, “We are very grateful to Betty for all her hard work over the years, but are delighted that she is going to continue as an invigilator.”

So although Betty will step back from the administration of the papers we look forward to seeing her in the exam hall again in the next diet of examinations.

Make sure you're not asking for it!

Police Scotland are cracking down on adults who are prepared to buy alcohol for children. It is a criminal offence to buy alcohol for someone under 18. Offenders could face a fine of up to £5,000 or up to 3 months in prison, or both. The campaign slogan is "Make sure you're not asking for it!" Our pupils are pictured here promoting the police campaign.
