Congratulations to Reece O'Hare, Kate Hughes and Gabriel McClymont who won the NLC Public Speaking competition on Tuesday 30 May.  A number of schools in North Lanarkshire had entered so this is a fantastic achievement!

Many thanks to Marie McGough for her work with the pupils and to the English Department for their support.

The competition final was held at Bellshill Cultural Centre. The St Aidan's team were up against five other NLC secondaries to win the final and the trophy. Airdrie Academy were the runners-up.

Caritas Award Ceremony

Caritas

On Thursday 8th June it was a very special day for St. Aidan`s High as a number of our sixth year students received their Pope Benedict Caritas Award in the Clyde Auditorium. Over 1,000 young people from across Scotland received their award at Thursday`s ceremony in the presence of the Bishops of Scotland, Ken Macintosh(the Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament) and many other important people representing church, civic and political life in Scotland as well as family members, headteachers and teachers from schools across Scotland and Parish Caritas co-ordinators.

Students receive this award by completing a series of gathering points which allows them to reflect on the teachings of their faith.  Additionally, they then put their faith into action in the School, Parish and local community to show love of neighbour.  Finally, the students write an essay outlining their reflections on their Caritas year. Very well done and congratulations to our 18 students who successfully attained the Caritas Award this year.

The picture above shows Carla Brawley, Rebecca Bradley, Megan Jordan, Hannah Burns, Hannah Coyle, Antonia McMahon and Jarek Skonieczny after receiving their medal and certificates. All of the students commented on how special a day it had been.
