February 2017 Newsletter

Welcome to the February 2017 edition of the Stane Primary School and Nursery Class Newsletter.

It’s hard to believe that January is already over.  It’s been an eventful month at Stane Primary, with lots of interesting learning experiences for the children.  You can follow all aspects of learning on our Twitter page and school blog.

Our Playground improvements continue with the installation of our Outdoor Classroom which will be finished soon.  We are still looking for items to include for Loose Parts Play.  If you have anything that we can make use of, please drop it in.

As ever, our school continues to benefit from the generosity and kindness of our community.  I am very grateful to those who have volunteered or donated items to the school this month - together we make ‘our wee school’ the wonderful place it is!

Mr. Scott Clark (Head Teacher)

Enrolment

Registration of Infant Beginners took place between 16th and 20th January 2017.  The intake of Primary 1 pupils from the catchment area is currently 22 for August 2017 but this may change depending on Placing Requests or families moving into the area.  Decisions about class configuration will be made nearer to the end of term, but the plan is for Mr. O’Donnell to teach Primary 1 next year.

The first transition event will be held at 10am on 10th February 2017 in Calderhead High School.  We look forward to seeing all of next year’s P1 parents there.

Stane Art Focus Fortnight

Over the past two weeks, the focus of P1-7s IDL topics was ‘Art and Famous Artists’.  Each child has created two pieces of art work to display at our Art Exhibition on February 10th February 2017.  We hope you can pop in between 9.30am and 10.30am or 1.45pm and 2.45pm to view the exhibits and enjoy some refreshments.

P5-7 Health and Wellbeing Survey

All pupils in P5-7 have been issued with information about a SCOTCEN Health and Wellbeing Survey on behalf of North Lanarkshire.  This will take place from 16th February 2017.  If you with to opt-out of this for your child, you must return the tear-off slip included in the leaflet by Friday 10th February.  Non-returns will be taken as permission for your child to take part.

Health and Wellbeing - RSHP lessons

A key component of the Health and Wellbeing Curriculum is ‘Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood’ lessons.  Over the next term, these lessons will be included in the teacher’s planning. All lessons are age and stage appropriate and are based on the ‘Proud to Be Me’ resource which you can view at http://www.lanarkshiresexualhealth.org/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2012/03/RSHP-Primary-Proud-to-be-Me-final.pdf

If you wish to view or discuss any of the resources that will be used, please contact Mr. Clark.

Change of Date

Please note that the date of the Primary 5/6 and 6/7 class assembly has been rearranged from Friday 3rd March to Wednesday 15th March 2017 at 9.30am.

M&M Theatre Visit

As a treat for all P1-7 Pupils, M&M Theatre Company will visit in the afternoon of Thursday 16th February 2017 to entertain us with a performance of Treasure Island.  P6/7 will have an opportunity to take part in a theatre workshop after the show.

Health Week

Our annual Health Focus week will take place from 20th-24th February 2017.  There are lots of active and energetic activities planned for this week - children are permitted to come to school in casual clothes suitable for activity every day that week.

Late Coming to School

Time keeping continues to be an issue for our school. A significant number of children are not making it into school before the bell every morning. We appreciate that there will be the odd occasion where families will be running a little late for one reason or another but we ask that you endeavour to get children into school on time as valuable teaching time can be missed. In line with North Lanarkshire policy, we must mark children as ‘late’ if they are not in school for 9am.

Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
